Located in the centre of Athens, in the Omonia district close to the Parliament building. The Asty Cinema is a basement cinema which opened in 1939. During World War II, a room in the basement was used by the Gestapo as a torture chamber.

The Asty Cinema was closed by rioters on 12th February 2012, but reopened a few days later. The single screen Asty Cinema, shows art house films, mostly foreign language movies.

I believe it was still an open cinema, until the riots yesterday.

Asty didn’t suffer of severe damages and started again two-three days after the riot.

It is not closed (2014) and never was, starting in 1939.
