Astor Cinema first opened on the 24th October 1947 with Alec Guinness in “Great Expectations” (1947), a film by David Lean, under the British Embassy which was at the same building.

It reopened in 2015 under “Wierd Wave” film distribution company with “"Back to the Future - Back to the Cinema of the Auteur” as a tagline.
