Esquire Theatre

The Esquire Theatre was opened by Blumenfeld Theatres on March 15, 1940 with Melvyn Douglas in “The Amazing Mr. Williams”. It 1963 it was equipped with the 3-projector Cinerama process, opening with “This Is Cinerama”. Taken over by the Pussycat Theatres chain from 1974 to the early-1980’s. It was twinned in the early-1980’s and then turned into offices.

On July 8, 1999 the theatre was once again showing movies, with the IMAX format, and includes first run 3D features in its programming.

Re: Posting above by Bob Koch…If you are still around, let me know. I met you years ago when I was a young ‘pup’ just getting started in ‘theatre management’, (1950) in Sacramento. You seemed to ‘pop’ up ‘servicing’ in every area I went to work. Started at the ‘California’ and ‘Studio’ in Sacto. Later in Chico; Modesto; Alameda. Hope to hear from you for ‘shop talk’. J.
