From Boxoffice, September 22, 1975. Strange but true story about a small town theatre. Leroy McIntosh was harassed by vandals by shooting out the windows of this Taylorsville, MS theatre. The vandals then went to his home and shot out windows in his home. They hit McIntosh in the leg and his wife was unhurt. He had been playing "Walking Tall" he had repriminded young patrons who were noisy and disturbing other movie goers. Relatives of the youngsters threatened to drive McIntosh from town. He said the police never did investigate the shooting at his home because the kids came from rich folks that they had the local police in their power. He did not want to close, but the shooting of his house caused him to close the Melroy Theatre.
Today we are always talking about noisy moviegoers, this was in 1975.

I can’t believe small town politics. Can’t say that anything has really changed. It wasn’t like Mr.McIntosh was running X -rated movies.
The above incident happened in 1973.I guess the theatres stayed closed until the article in Boxoffice in 1975.
PLEASE ADD ZIP CODE:
39168
For some reason, without a ZIP CODE Google Maps locates the town no where nears it’s correct location??
Need an address, more info and photos.
Theater is not demolished, at least not as of the Jan. ‘16 streetview pass. Address would be somewhere between 317 and 403 Front St. It looks like the numbers change in the middle of the block. Front is covered with ugly sheet metal, and the street level with plywood, but it is occupied, and a marquee is still present.
