The Novelty Theater once seated 340 at a time when the entire population of Paris, Idaho was a scant 932 residents, according to the Film Daily Yearbook of 1948.
Paris was settled in 1863 and was the first town erected in the Bear Lake area, located on the Utah/Idaho border.
Today, the town is even smaller with a population under 600. The remains of the Novelty Theater is next the Paris Historical Museum.

This description is not entirely accurate. The museum is next to the theater (is no part of the museum at all) and the movie house has been closed for many many years. About 10 years ago the roof on the back section collapsed and when the owner of the building left the front door open I went inside for a look. The theater still had an old old popcorn machine sitting just inside the front door, the chairs inside are VERY old and I saw lots of daylight from the lack of a roof. My wife grew up going to Paris and she said it was not open back when she was a kid, but she remembers sneaking inside (aprox 1980) with her cousin and she recalls it being pretty much the same. I visit Paris every year so I am very familiar with this theater.
