Kinox Cinema

In the beginning of the 20th century, in the Molenbeek district, was a street named Rue de La Sacristie. In that street was a theatre named Prado of Salle du Prado which began to show movies before 1914.

It became Prado Cinema, and in the meantime, the street changed name to Rue du Prado. The Prado Cinema became Kinox Cinema on 25th September 1936, under the direction of the Soudan circuit, together with the Leopold Cinema in the same district. In the 1950’s it was equipped for CinemaScope and “The Girl Can’t Help It” was shown there. In 1964, it screened “Cleopatra” in third run after the Ambassador Cinema and with the Marignan Cinema in Saint Josse. In this period, the closest cinemas were Forum Cinema and and Crystal Cinema on the Chaussee de Gand, and the Ideal Cinema on Rue Ransfort, all of them nearby. There was a street located near called Rue du Cinema. The Kinox Cinema was closed in 1975 and it is now a small supermarket with nothing of the former cinema to be seen.

I understand that Rue du Cinema in Molenbeek was once a location for cinema film production, very briefly, probably around the time of WW I. This may explain the name.
