The Tazwell Theatre opened on August 25, 1939 with Mickey Rooney in “Andy Hardy Gets Spring Fever”. It was closed on January 18, 1968 with Dean Martin in “Texas Across the River”.

Today a florist operated out of the building which by 2022 was Holland’s Caramel Corn.

My Dad owned this theater in the late 60’s. He bought it when no one else wanted it. He hired a bunch of young kids to run it, and every kid in town spent a lot of Saturdays there watching cartoon marathons and Disney flicks…

This theatre was mentioned last night (6/10/13) on the “American Pickers” TV show. A black and white photo of theatre was shown as well as a number of movie posters that had been displayed at it.

The Tazewell Theatre building is now Holland’s Caramelcorn.

Friday August 25, 1939 Grand Opening print ad added credit Washington Historical Society. Opened with a two day run of “Andy Hardy Gets Spring Fever”, with an Extra “Our Gang Comedy” and Cartoon-Colored Reel.
