True. But now we know that what is known now is what was known before, and what was known before is now what is known today.
That address is for the old Bowling Green Mall. The theatre was located inside the mall. Dollar General (as well as Big Lots) are stores that were added in the early 90’s (I think) and they both have exterior entrances. I have heard that the front of the theatre is boarded over now. The building, or most of it, is owned by Western Kentucky University and I guess they are using some of the interior store spaces. I haven’t been inside the old mall in a long time. I managed the Martin Twin on several occasions, coming over from another theatre in town with the twin’s manager was on maternity leave. It was a fun place to manage.
Yes it was operated by Carmike. Carmike bought Martin Theatres in the late 70’s or early 80’s (?) but the twin retained the Martin name. I worked for Carmike for 8 years.
And what was it like working for Carmike? Anyways Jan 1 1969 sees “THE HORSE IN THE GRAY FLANNEL SUIT” playing on its second week.
You guys are correct. In the early 90’s, it had become a $1 theatre. I met my ex wife here, had many dates in highschool with her there. For a a time, they toyed getting it back up and running, but finally, it was sold to Western Kentucky University. A lot of us Warren Central folks would hang out there to hook up with girls.
It became a discount house in August 1985. The last two first run films shown there were Pee Wee’s Big Adventure and Summer Rental. The last two films ever shown there were End of Days (ironically enough) and The Best Man
