The Chief Theatre was opened August 29, 1934. By the early-1940’s it was operated by Paramount Pictures Inc. through their subsidiary Hoblitzelle & O'Donnell and was remodeled by architectural firm Brittelle, Ginner & Neuner. It was still operating in 1955.

The entire even-numbered side of the 200 block of Central Avenue is now a parking lot. The Chief Theatre is gone.

Motion Picture Herald, Oct. 11, 1952: “Albuquerque Exhibitors Inc. … have closed the Yucca, Chief and Rio, three small old theatres all of which have outlived their usefulness.”
