Opened by General Cinema on March 28, 1980 as a four screen. It was sold to Dubinsky Brothers on May 12, 1988. Excellence Theatres took over on December 1, 1988. In 1991 it was sold to Carmike, who expanded it to a twelve screen seating 2,400 on May 18, 1990. It is now operated by AMC.

This was taken over by Excellence theatres in 1988 giving Excellence the first-run monopoly in Siouxland until 2004.

Nikki Paul, who for decades worked at the box office of several movie theaters in Sioux City, most recently this one, has died at the age of 100. While she stopped working at the box office several years ago, she continued as a Walmart greeter until last year.

AMC has dropped classic from the name. Renovations are finally in the works!
I got an email talking about the name change and it stated renovations are going to start very soon it even included a picture of the proposed rennovations
steventonysmith, that’s not really a photo of what the theater will look like. AMC uses that photo on the theater page of many of their theaters on AMC’s website. Basically its a stock image used to give an idea of how the theater looks, but each theater is different.
General Cinema operated the theater until it was sold along with two other Iowa locations in a joint venture between Dubinsky Brothers and Essaness Theatres on May 12, 1988.
Correction: Dubinsky Brothers took over the former GCC on May 12, 1988, followed by Excellence Theaters on December 1 of that same year.
