Located in the Morningside district. The Park Theatre was opened on April 2, 1915. It became the Esquire Theatre on October 15, 1941 and was operated by Iowa United Theatres. Seating was listed at 444. Following complaints from Esquire magazine for using their name, it was renamed Empire Theatre on January 1, 1950. It was renamed Cinema on April 30, 1965. The Cinema closed sometime in the mid-1980’s.

The theatre has since been demolished, and the site is a parking lot.

The Google photos don’t look right they are not showing St Aubin … anyway, the Esquire eventually became the Cinema Theatre, always was a single screen, and it ran well into the 1980’s – don’t know when it closed. Also not mentioned on the Sioux City theatres page is the Cameo Theatre which was downtown on 409 Nebraska, a twin with narrow auditoriums and it was in business from around the late 60s to the late 80s.

This opened as Cinema on April 30th, 1965. Grand opening ad in the photo section.

Appears to be opened as the Park Theatre, placing its first ad on April 2nd, 1915. Ad posted.

This was renamed Esquire on October 15th, 1941, and Empire on January 1st, 1950, after the Esquire Magazine complained. Ads posted.
