The “7-T-7” began advertising in the Sioux City (IA) Journal on July 16, 1952, when it showed John Archer in “Rodeo” plus two cartoons.

Called the “Seven-T-Seven” by the Theatre Catalog, was first listed there in its 1953-54 edition, capacity 290, owner A. E. Thacker. The Journal’s obituary of Albert E. “Sonny” Thacker Jr., who died July 27, 2011 at the age of 85, said he operated the “7T7” plus the Soo Theatre and State Theatre indoor theatres in South Sioux City.

Beginning in 1963, the drive-in altered its name in its advertisements to the 77 Drive-In. Its final advertisement in the Journal was on September 12, 1971. The next day it was listed as ‘Closed for the Season’. The Journal’s review of local theatres on January 30, 1972 said the 77 Drive-In was owned by Dubinsky Brothers Theaters of Lincoln.

By May 1977, a Journal article referred to the site as “the former 7T7 Drive-In” when it was rezoned for industrial use. A furniture store sits there today, but an outbuilding just south of the store is where the 77’s projection booth had been.
