Vogue Cinema

The Vogue Cinema was opened on 19th April 1940 and originally had a seating capacity of 490 in stalls and circle levels.

It closed on 7th September 2007 with “Transformers”. The reason for closing was the lessee/operator retiring. The building is owned by Newry and Mourne Council. It was the last single screen cinema to operate in Northern Ireland.

Never subdivided.

My scanned photographs were taken in March 2000, when I had the pleasure of meeting the operator, John Quinn. My photographs of the closed cinema were taken in October 2013.

The Vogue opened on 19 April 1940 with Rage of Paris, the ceremony performed by the Countess of Kilmorey. It was closed for a refit during May-August 1998.
