The Palace Theatre was built as a silent cinema in 1922. It was built by the local Masonic Lodge who occupied the 3rd floor of the building. It was later owned by MCM Theatres, which also operated the Fain Theatre, later the Tropic Theatre, in downtown Leesburg. It closed in 1965. The Masonic Lodge vacated the building in the early-1970’s. Today the seats have been removed, but most of the rest of the house is still present, including the stage.

The building on the left appears to be the Palace in the 1920s:

I was in the Palace today. It is being remodeled to be a dance studio, and the floor has been leveled. The stage is being kept, and the owner is doing a beautiful job of restoration, including the installation of period light fixtures.

1945 postcard added courtesy Jane Bay. Below link shares some Palace Theatre recollections, including it’s being built in 1922 as a silent film theatre.

The Palace was built by the local Masonic Lodge, who had their quarters in the third floor until the early 1970s. The building was designed by architect Alan J. MacDonough (some sources give the spelling McDonough, but the Society of Architectural Historians and the University of Virginia Press prefer the “Mac” spelling, so I’m inclined to follow their practice.)
