Regent Square

Originally a neighborhood second run theatre, the Regent Square Theatre was opened December 14, 1936. It is owned by Pittsburgh Filmakers and runs local and national indie films.

The Regent Square Theatre is located in the Regent Square, East End section of Pittsburgh. Not to be confused with the old Regent Theater (now known as the Kelly Strayhorn Theater).

The Regent Square Theatre was closed in December 2019. In June 2021 it was announced that it would become part of the adjacent art gallery.

71 Dude, that was a good article by Ed Blank. Thanks for posting it. I went to the Regent Square the other night to see “Animal KIngdom” and I’m gonna return next week to see the “Mesrine” series.

I encourage all film fans to support the Regent Square. They show movies that you just can’t see elsewhere.

This Theatre is on The Swissvale border in the Regent Square neighborhood. It Does Not have ANYTHING (Nor was it named after the “Regent” in East Liberty. When I lived in Swissvale I used to walk to the place often. The last movie a saw here was “The Crow” with Brandon Lee.

The “Operated By” (chain) should be Pittsburgh Filmmakers.

The Regent Square is (hopefully) temporarily closed right now (Aug 2017) due to technical and financial issues. Here’s an article from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette on the topic:

Re-opening on Oct. 27, with a weekend of horror films for all ages, and some with a local angle!

The Regent Square Theater has now closed. According to a TribLive article, it and the Harris were closed because of the financial difficulties of its the The Pittsburgh Center for Arts and Media.
