My greatest posessions are my “Fox, the last word” so well written by the late Preston J. Koffman -what a tallented and careing kid he was. I’ll never tire of reading it… and a Cherub which was positioned over the center front inner lobby doors. Damn those greedy fools for destroying such a magnificent treasure.

Thanks for the stunning show… Hey kids… the crown actually revolves -WOW! As we Brits say “God Save The Queen.”

My heart twinged and skipped several beats while watching these grand ‘old ladies’ of the past. Just think of the lost grandeur our children will never be able to savor. Nice music, too… and THANKS A MILLION!

Why didn’t someone just remove the seating, level the floor and build the supermarket inside a perfectly good and useable building? WHAT A REDICULOUS WASTE!

Simon Overton commented about ABC Regal Southport on Jul 12, 2012 at 12:07 pm

Curtains always make a stage, regardless of its width or depth, look good… this artisticly designed ‘frilly’ verticle lift drape makes the whole atmosphere look simply grand. It’s a crying shame that cinema operators just don’t care any more in this day and age of dull, little black boxes run by candy merchants!

Is this possibly the ‘Kettering’ as mentioned over the railway station announcements in “Brief Encounter?”. I never tire of that classic picture!

Simon Overton commented about New Bremerton cinema hopes to start showing movies in mid-June on Jul 5, 2012 at 3:57 pm

Bremerton’s SEEfilm 10-screen cinemas is now open for entertainment. This small Oregon based company has located their red-bricked complex on Burwell Street at 4th almost at the busy junction to the bremerton-Seattle Ferry Port. This huge Navy city has long been starved of a new movie complex with good parking. Their Website is: www.seefilm.net Phone: 360-362-4888. Of the 10 all-digital screens, 4 are in the 3D format.

Hello Tinseltoes… Sorry, I cannot download your photos. I’d love to have seen this theater!

“Tinseltoes” You are so right. I’m not perfect but I do wish contributors would at least take the trouble to PROOF READ" their comments and make sure spelling, punctuation and grammar are correct. Enough said!

My wife and I went to a Dickens Christmas Faire, sometime back in the 1980’s. Most of the furnishings in that cavernous auditorium had been stripped, especially the balcony. I also recall the accoustics were impressive, as was the decore… so typical of Fox quality.

The local residents and merchants are very lucky to have such a vibrant cinema in their midst.

Today’s news reveals, what I feel, is ‘true showmanship’ and I hope your patrons fill the house. And P.S… I really like the old facade -it really needs to be restored to it’s art-deco appearance.

An unbelievably beautiful display of classic curtains! To me, somehow, this ranks up there with New York City’s fabulous Radio City Music Hall.

Simon Overton commented about UA Egyptian Theatres D-150 screen (75 x 30 feet) on Jun 20, 2012 at 9:56 pm

The 90' wide screen at Salt lake City’s beautiful Villa Theatre was nothing less than AWESOME. To see “The Lord of the Rings” there was so memorable.

Hi gomesrox… S.F.’s Golden Gate Theatre once had a twin sister in Los Angeles. I believe it was the Hill Street Theatre?

Simon Overton commented about Music Hall Theatre on Jun 20, 2012 at 9:28 pm

When I was stationed at Oakland Army Base in 1965-67, I’d often shoot over to SF for a couple of pints of British ale… to wash down my fish n' chips from Old Chelsea F&C… then catch what ever was playing at the Music Hall. Nice place, while it lasted.

Simon Overton commented about Dolby Theatre on Jun 20, 2012 at 9:05 pm

Are we to see the new name (Dolby Theatre) change on the facade… soon? I also hope that the Oscars decorators, will change that ever-lovin' gold drape across the front of the building. Surely, Jo Ann Fabrics will have something suitable ‘on sale’?

Simon Overton commented about Chicago Theatre on Jun 19, 2012 at 9:52 pm

Not that I like Conan O'Brien’s TV show, but I suffered through last week’s from the magnificent Chicago Theatre… I druled at the opulence of the cavernous auditorium and the camera angles of that panoramic sized stage. Shame for no opening curtain. Next year hopefully?… it’s what showbiz is all about!

Simon Overton commented about Dolby reveals theaters set to install Atmos on Jun 19, 2012 at 9:30 pm

I fully agree with “MikeOaklandPark” regarding the greedy black-box megaplexes. These ‘awards’ should have been handed out to theaters who know about showmanship -two come to mind: San Francisco’s CASTRO and Disney’s El Capitan in Hollywood. Another pet-peeve I have are the cinemas who don’t use their Lucas THX sound system? It’s awesome!!!

Simon Overton commented about Study reports piracy has negligible influence on U.S. box office on Feb 29, 2012 at 12:38 pm

To stop the ongoing pirating/theft situation, wouldn’t it be possible to install the “blossoming” effect when trying to copy an original DVD? This would put a severe damper on future sales, eh?

Simon Overton commented about Thieves strike Palace Theatre on Feb 29, 2012 at 12:23 pm

A friend of mine had his beloved “Stars & Stripes” flag stolen (it was presented to him upon retiring from the U.S. Navy) so he connected a 220-volt wire to the pole. Guess who he caught returning to steal his pole? That’s one sure way of shocking these metal thieves!!!

Simon Overton commented about Drake Odeon on Feb 28, 2012 at 12:45 pm

When I lived in Plymouth, in the mid 1970’s, the former Gaumont Cinema (across the road) was operating as a night club. Is that structure still there?

Simon Overton commented about San Francisco's Metro Theater to become gym on Feb 20, 2012 at 10:10 am

Gone with the wind, will be the always wonderful smell of fresh popcorn only to be replaced by the stale fragrance of sweaty jockstraps!

Simon Overton commented about Roxy Theatre on Feb 16, 2012 at 7:00 pm

Paul… You hit the nail on the head. And I say “ditto” with regard this theater. The same greed, crooked politics and destructive insanity has happened in so many American cities, especially San Francisco’s awesome FOX. Enough is enough… we MUST save these magnificent theaters for the future generations to come!

Simon Overton commented about Hollywood Theatre gets a makeover on Jan 18, 2012 at 11:31 am

This wonderful story, in part, reminds me of when San Francisco’s Castro Theatre replaced their old seats, and locals were climbing into the dumpster outside the theater and retrieving them for use in their homes. By making a donation to Regal’s annual “Stars Of Hope” fund-raiser program, I too have some old but good red seats in my “Bijou” home theater.
