Delsea Drive Inn Theater is open for the 2022. Right now the film schedule only lists (weekends) for May. See their website as you have to buy tickets in advance and those types of things ,

Recent & future events at the Landis Theater include May 7, 2022 Greg Hawkes (Founding Member and Original Keyboardist of the Cars) with Eddie Japan performing the music of The Cars. May 10, 2022 Styper. So, a lot of good to great tribute bands as well as a mix of older bands that still play good to great music. The venue is used several times a week for concerts and is rented out to Miss Tri-City Pageant 2022 for instance. I haven’t been to this theater but intend to go sometime this summer.

Per the Facebook group, “Things that aren’t there anymore - South (New) Jersey edition this theater was at 32 South Laurel Street, Bridgeton, NJ. 08302. This Laurel theater was the last theater built in Bridgeton. It showcasted Spanish languaged (sic) films to cater to the farmhands that migrated to the area (to work the crops). In 1979 the theater closed.”

If I’m not mistaking, a laundry mat was in the same shopping center as The Cherry Theater. I also saw The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (I believe the original) in 1975 or very early 1976.

FYI, the link in Mike (saps) on August 7, 2007 comment still works and the pictures are exactly like the Chincoteague Island theater looks like inside. It’s beautiful inside.

The Newark Historical Society has the two large STATE (theater) signs. The National 5 & 10 store on Main Street, periodically displays the STATE signs in their large windows.

Of course the Island Theatre isn’t showing films right now due to the regulations imposed by the Governor of Virginia due to Covid-19. Hopefully, it will only be another week or two from today. You can call them at 757.336.6109 if you like.

For several days around Xmas this year (2018), The Island Theatre played free holiday movies like the 1944 White Christmas(with Danny Kaye & Bing Crosby) and even free double features. Snacks were on sale in it’s lobby and a great time had by all. They show 1st run movies during the busy summer season.

I was at the Chateau in November 1974. It was my first XXX movie as an 18 year old. I’m glad to see it is still open.

1st place I ever saw an adult movie @ 1973, still 17 years old. My sister told me a man told her a gun went off when he was in the theater. Funny thing…that first movie was so too much for me as I fell asleep.

This “rocking chair” cinema was where “I guess” I saw JAWS in the summer of 1975. I had to have seen it here, no other theater in the area had the rocking chairs. I’m very glad to see it is still opened. Going in the water after seeing JAWS was very different than prior to seeing the movie.

The Family Theatre is a mention in Senator Arlen Spector’s book, (I’ll get back to you on the name of the book). Spector describes an incident where a young man goes into the theatre & the vice cops arrested him for lewd act(s). Spector came to the rescue for the man in Court.

I recall seeing West Side Story, Old Yeller, Flipper & several other 1960's films here. Upstairs was a balcony but I don't remember being in it. Prior to it's June 1985 closing my uncle Eddie & I saw Rodney Dangerfield in Easy Money. Only time we ever went to the movies together.

When American Graffiti played, I remember the only available seats for me and 3 others were in the front row. The seat I sat in had a very slow drip (once every 10-15 minutes), that fell on my head. Prior to it’s shutdown in September 2015, Rocky Horror Picture Show was shown every Saturday at 12:01AM. This Saturday night showing was taken over by The Cinema Center after The State Theatre on Main Street, Newark closed.

Showed xxx adult movies continuously from 1pm, 7 days a week. They would stop letting you in around 9:45 – 10pm. Had 2 hardcore films with those “interesting” coming attractions after the 2d movie. Some films stayed as long as 52 weeks or more. I knew a guy who took.his wife there thinking it was a regular movie theater. Boy, they were surprised. They had a nice little candy selection as well as cups of sodas. Some cruising occurred and sometimes when a lady came almost the entire theater of men would follow her down to her seat.

On a recent (July 4, 2014) drive by this theatre is very much open and very busy. I forget which show was playing but there were 3 times for the show that day. It's location on Main Street in Chincoteague is surrounded by scores of little shops and is cooled by a nice bay wind.
