This theater’s auditorium was used in Napolean Dynamite. I serviced the booth there on and off for several years. I will send in some pictures as soon as I find them.

Mark Gulbrandsen commented about Washoe Theater on Oct 14, 2007 at 10:36 pm

The projection booth of the Washoe is equipped with it’s original three Super Simplex projectors. One of them is still sporting a carbon arc lamphouse and this machine is regularly used to run the previews on. The other machines share duty from the platter system. An Ultra Stereo processor and QSC power amps drive the vintage Altec speakers behind the screen.

Mark Gulbrandsen commented about Roman Theater on Oct 14, 2007 at 9:58 pm

While the Roman may very well be the oldest continually operating movie theater in Montana it is very definately not the only small town theater still operating in Montana. There is a theater in Hardin, Forsyth, White Sulpher Springs and quite a number of other single screeners still going strong in Montana and the small population in these town is whats kept them going. There is no room nor a need for anything much over two screen in any small Montana town.

Being in this theater is like being inside a time capsule. The theater is all original…carpeting, seats, and all else except for conversion to xenon and platter. A very amazing place to see!

Mark Gulbrandsen commented about America Stadium Theatre on Oct 13, 2007 at 8:48 pm

This is THE PLACE to see a film in the Mountain States! The America was remodeled by its very fussy owners a few years ago and features the largest screen in the state of Wyoming and the largest sound system between New York and Hollywood. Indeed this theater is better equipped than the Cinerama Dome! The back half was stadiumed and the front half still retains its sloped floor all new concessions and restrooms. The screen measures close to 60 feet wide. The sound system utilizes JBL’s largest 5674 tri-amped stage speakers. 4 Dual JBL 18" subs anlong with 22 JBL 8340 surrounds are very impressive to hear. All amplification is by QSC and a Panastero sound processor coupled to a DTS XD-10 and Sony DFP-2000 provide analog and two formats of digital playback. The America is also 70mm capable and is equipped with a Phillips DP-70 projector and Christie SLH lamphouse. Screen brightness at this theater is well with in SMPTE spec.

All in all this theater is a big surprise located in such a remote place. Its a don’t miss theater!

This theater was very tastfully twinned and the balcony and main floor now serve as the two theaters. This is a great place to see a movie if you’re in Cheyenne. Its very well kept up and well operated.

Mark Gulbrandsen commented about Avalon Theatre on Oct 13, 2007 at 8:25 pm

This theater has been in the McBride family for decades and has never closed. The projectors are still the original pair of Super Simplex machines and I removed the last still operating pair of Carbon Arc lamphouses in Utah from this theater about 3 years ago. A pair of Strong Super-Lumex’s along with modern Switching rectifiers were installed. Although he still runs a change-over booth with 20 minute reels owner McBride was glad to see the Carbon Lamphouses go out!

This is Utah’s most fabulous theater left no holds barred! For film projection the booth is equipped with a German made Ernemann 16/35mm projector and Sony DFP-3000 digital sound processor. Stage speakers are JBL 4675 with JBL Dual 18" subs. The speakers are all on movable stands to aid in storage off stage during live shows. The screen is 50 feet wide.

Mark Gulbrandsen commented about SCERA Showhouse on Oct 13, 2007 at 8:17 pm

The interior of the large theater(there are two screens there) was recently completely remodeled and is now a very attractive room. This is the largest non-Imax type movie screen in Utah County. The large theater is equipped for 70mm presentations. A Century JJ 35/70mm projector and USL processor handle the 70mm stuff while a Sony DFP-3000 handle 35mm analog and digital playback. a 4kw Christie lamphouse provides adaquate light levels on the huge screen.

The smaller theater which serves dual purpose live and movie is equipped with a Simplex X-L projector and is equipped for Dolby Digital playback.

The Towne Theater is owned and operated by a family that lives in Ephram, they also operate another twin in Ephram and the Drive In at Mt. Plesant. It was recently re-modeled and it still retains its balcony. Recently a new USL JSD-80 sound processor was installed along with a BACP recverse scan analog reader. It is not yet equipped for digital sound playback.

This theater is now closed after it last ran films with Spanish sub-titles. The theaters have also been completely stripped so it ever showing films again is not very likely.

Mark Gulbrandsen commented about Catlow Art Center on Oct 7, 2007 at 4:19 am

I serviced the Catlow projection and sound system in the 80’s and 90’s. I still remember Jim the relief projectionist and also the old gentleman who was the original full time projectionist there. He retired in the late 80’s and Jim retired sometime in the mid 90’s. I also remember him telling me about how he installed the very fisrt television antenna in Barrington.

The Catlow sound system was upgraded in the mid 90’s to include JBL 4675 stage speakers and JBL 8330 Surrounds. These speakers replaced the original RCA magnetic sound system speakers. In the booth we installed a Dolby CP-65 processor and new BGW power amps. This gear replaced an again EPRAD Starscope system.

Also in the late 90’s the Catlow underwent major structurial modifications. The main roof is supported by large wooden beams and some of these beams began to pull apart and or crack. This very extensive structural modification was done to guarantee the Catlow would not collapse and that it would be around for many years to come.

I do miss Baloneys alot… Roberta was constantly making the sandwiches bigger and bigger… Tim would raise the prices to accomodate the extra use of stuff going into them and then Roberta would make them larger yet…. It got to the point that if you could eat half the sandwich for lunch you were doing pretty good. The other half would be consumed for dinner.

We have no good deli’s out here in SLC… Hey Tim and Roberta… want to expand the sandwich shop?
