Probably one of the strangest theatres I’ve been to. The 4 (1-4) theatres facing the concession stand have stadium seating, and reclining chairs. The theatres on the right (5-8) behind the concession stand have old school sloped seating with a center aisle, non reclining seats. At least the screens are decent in these smaller houses. (They have side masking) It seems that they were either cheap, or ran out of money while designing this place.
I’ve never been to anyone of the ones you’re talking about, but the ones in CT were the best run theatres in this state. I really hope Rave doesn’t F them up.
Saw it in Real-D, and it was in 1.78:1 where I saw it and it looked FANTASTIC in 3d, I thought only the 2D DLP, and film version were the only ones in 2.40:1. This must be probably due to the projectionist, cause where I saw it in REAL-D, it was 1.78
Went to Showcase Southington 12 tonight for Sherlock Holmes. Unlike when Loews Plainville switched to all AMC stuff overnight, Everything here is still NA. They still have the opening exit door trailer,(which is in my last post, I’m sure it’ll be gone soon) but there was no feature presentation bump. I bet they’re being slow with their transition.
It’s funny that the 2 chains that used to dominate CT are no longer factors. At least AMC or Regal didn’t take over, you all know what they do to their theatres. For those who will miss NA here is what you won’t be seeing before the movie anymore. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qipKi7XIGHU
That’s comforting to know. I like their emphasis on technology. I am a digital projection supporter, and I may be sold now on them. The thing is I’ve been loyal to Showcase for most of my moviegoing life. There has always been something special about going to a Showcase Cinema, but at least it seems it’s not a Regal or AMC. They seem to have a vision, and I’m all for them.
I hope Rave doesn’t screw up an operation that has always been good. Showcase has a history in CT. I remember when it was only Showcase and Hoyts theatres in CT.
Tell me about it, I have chain loyalty here too. I’m really going to miss them. Buckland Hills was by far their best in the greater Hartford area. Like you Lord, I live close to Plainville and Simsbury, (closer to Simsbury) and I do the same as you, DRIVE THE EXTRA DISTANCE TO BUCKLAND. I used to work at Plainville and when my free movies were up, I’d go to Buckland with another co-worker cause It didn’t feel like work when we went to a movie. I guess I’ll do the same as you, get the NA experience when I go to Patriot games, I’ll stay for a movie while I sober up.
Came here for a movie today. I peeked around a few theaters before my movie, and to my surprise they added side masking to most of their screens. (Including the one I was in #4, which was set at flat and opened to scope before trailers started) Theater 1 and 8 they neglected for some odd reason. Saw that Ice Age on 6 had the curtains set at flat, but in UP in theater 1, it was the old Entertainment Cinemas style flat on scope presentation presentation, with the image in the middle of the screen and nothing around it. They should just program scope movies on these screens seriously.
They started to demolish this theater: View link to read the article. So sad, was the only NA theater in CT that I did not visit, and wanted to but never got around to it.
Theater 8 or 9 at W. Springfield would make a great IMAX, even the screens at flat i think are bigger than Buckland’s LIEMAX. I was thinking that while attending the NESN HD GameNight at W.Springfield which was held in one of the 2 next to the boxoffice. As much as I like Buckland Showcase, they should’ve waited for after the renovation and added an IMAX in the new wing that holds Theaters 4 and 5.(Which are nice theatres in their own right, almost as big as W. Springfield’s)
I just hope they don’t sell all of the theatres in CT, Showcase Buckland Hills is the best within 20 miles of me, and if i’m not going with a huge group of friends(who usually go to Loews Plainville, where we just end up most of the time)and I’m driving, we go to Buckland. Always a good presentation, the small theaters here have bigger screens than Plainville’s smaller top-masking screens. All screens here are side-masking. If they sell any they can sell Southington or Berlin. Can you imagine if AMC or Regal took over a well-maitained theater like Buckland.
I love the renovations that they gave this place, added 2 very large screens on the left side of the bulding, the bar, and the decor. Even before the renvations it was very well run, but with the addition of the 2 lager auditoriums, this makes it my main destination, I travel the extra 15 min for a great experience
Then moving to the suburbs in the Farmington Valley we had the Loews Bristol which was close, we hated that all the screens were tiny, so we’d still go to Berlin. Run by Showcase they always had good presentation, decent auditoriums. Then Hoyts built a stadium theater 5 min and Loews built a newer bigger 20plex to replace the crappy Bristol 8, went to those for awhile, even worked for one of them, but now I go the farther distance because I like the standards NA puts for their projection quality and clean atmosphere, the AMC/Loews was great at first but it has gotten run down really quickly, but all the Showcases stayed great and well maintained

Personally I’ve tried the different flavors, and although I live close to the AMC (which used to be a Loews, which replaced a smaller Loews down the road which kind of sucked) and the 2 Bowties and a Hoyts, I happen to have a loyalty to NA. Growing up in Hartford the main 2 theaters in the area were Showcase Cinemas East Hartford or Berlin or Newington, and Hoyts. Hoyts owned the crappy Cinema City which had Disney, but for 90% of the time it was East Hartford. Until Berlin opened which was alot nicer, so we migrated our business there.
Stan will be missed, he brought many of my favorite screen characters to life like Terminator, the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park. He had his hand in many of my favorite films growing up, and it’s sad to hear the creator of many of the best creature effects is gone.

It’s supposed to be ready by end of August, should be bigger than Buckland Hill’s IMAX. Theater 19 fits almost 700people.
This place is going to get a LIEMAX in theater 19, their largest theater.

NA can sue, they’re using their name and stenciling.
Anyone know which ones, as long as it’s not Buckland Hills. I wouldn’t think they would because it is now a Cinema DeLux
