pretty impressive for such a small theatre to be able to offer first run movies. Looks like it’d be a unique theatre to try to go to some time

I was out a couple weeks of ago surveying the old drive-in to find out that there are but, some remains left. The old possible footings for the screen are still on site and the old electrical wiring is still standing maybe what powered the lights and concession stand.

Too bad no one has any pictures of the old drive-in.

It would be great if anyone had a picture of it maybe link it from flickr?

Google maps has a streetview and you can clearly see the old theatre if you type in the address 10 Mechanic St. Camden, ME

I’ve been to the Movie Magic and it wasn’t a half bad theatre especially for the price and being compared to the other local first run cinema in Bangor

Cinema Tour lists that the Strands address was 76 Main St. and listed it as Old Town, ME

I briefly saw the exterior of the building which was pretty amazing but, didn’t have a chance to peek inside and see the interior but, it looks as if it must be a pretty unique theater.

I read something about it was also the Paramount? as the building looks exactly the same as the Paramount.

I was up visiting Saint John and saw it’s sad state but, interestingly it was neat to see that all the old coming attraction signs were still standing and the marquee was still in Great shape. I’m wandering what the inside would like now and hopefully they don’t demolish but, make something of it.

In a bit i will post a link to some of the images i took of the theater

Yeah,

I was basically just ball parking the address because the streets have changed a little bit. Thanks for informing on the Style.

Cinemalover commented about Bangor Mall Cinemas 10 on Jun 9, 2010 at 4:08 am

I read something that it originally started out as an 8 screen cinema and was around in the late 80’s up through the 90’s and then in the late 90’s early 2000’s it was transformed into a 10 screen cinema.

It used to be owned by Hoyts but, now seems to be owned by the Boston Culinary Group.

It’s also advertised to be the only cinema in Maine to offer closed caption movies

I found a 2009 Bangor Daily News Article that talked a lot about the old theaters around the Bangor Area and it mentioned the Nickel Theater being close by another theater the Gaiety which was in Norombega Hall.

It mentioned that the old owner of the Nickel theater was owned by the Keiths and offered Vaudville acts.

The Nickel theater had sold it’s millionth ticket in December.

Thats all I have to say but here’s a link to the full BDN article.
