saw civil war yesterday in upstairs theatre and was very disappointed with projection—trailers run at wrong sizing and a tear in lower left of screen has not been fixed. house lights just totally shut off at feature time–meanwhile during trailer time –house lights fully on—–also almost like they shrunk down the projection to minimize the tear. I ended up moving to front row to see “a better image”.
What a shame—so many good memories of that fun theater upstairs.
What was the point of all the 70mm filmmakers of shooting 70 if majority of screens is 35 only? What about showscan? I applaud Ang Lee’s attempt at pushing the limits. Its all baby steps leading up to eventual change/evolution. It is a shame only 14 screens can handle it—-her in 2019 ..but maybe the next film —it will be 50.
I believe the 2nd best theater there ( I am sure some would consider it the best)—the Loews—is getting converted. Curious how a balcony experience will be there now.
To me it looked similar to AMC25 but possibly more keystoning due to theatre design. The projectors were side by side instead of going thru a 90 degree prism.I think its called “duo” mode.
The Last Jedi was shot mostly on 35mm film anamorphiclly & was scanned @ 4k. I believe Disney has an arrangement with kodak to shoot Ep9 on film as well.
Went to theater to get rogue one tix in person bit box office closing at 1145 so this is a fandango sell only…bummer…i got my TFA tix in person because of fandango crash probability
Re: Billy Lynn HFR was in theater 2 Kings Theater. It appeared like a standard theater—no atmos speakers above, I believe the movie only runs a week in this mode.
I saw it last night @ 7pm and not crowded either. Some images were quite amazing while some were “a little too close”. I wonder if this format maybe better suited for short form. It is like “being there”. Its almost like another art form. To me, they were experimenting with the technology more than making a film. I also wonder how the normal 24fps deliverable will look & feel…..I would think overall very, very forgettable compared to this presentation. Almost not worth seeing at all in the other format.

I just heard from someone in the cab ride home that the theater may be closing. I hope not.
the usher told me a company purchased the entire 6pm dolby screening of star wars—-bummed about that—I was 10th on line at the theatre.

Apparently this is getting the 9 film star wars marathon—and midtown isn’t??

Is the floating screen concept a way to deal with the digital laser “speckle” effect?
Its seems they lost a lot of seats. But to charge $3 more than AMC25. I don’t think its worth the trip up there.

This has always been a great theater. How have the upgrades been? I heard it may become the NY Dolby theater like its sister in California.

Ok so if thats the case, is imax making custom Anamorphic dcps for their laser screens?
In your opinion, do these seats recline like the old ones? Which isn’t a good thing. Hard to determine based on the photos.
But wasn’t M the handicapped seats? only a few of those.

Billy Lynn Tix on fandango right now in theater 2. I am assuming this is the premium experience.
