when toad’s place got in trouble with their ID incident, they were closed for 2 months. the rumor was that they would refurbish and move into the Palace as an annex. i got in there b/c a friend was helping remodel and saw the transformation. but the deal never happened.

King’s Bicycle Rentals is in here now, don’t know if it’s seasonal or what. If you look thru the front doors, there’s tons of bicycles in the lobby, but the snack bar remains unchanged.
To the right side along the road, there are bikes out front and a side door/garage is the sales/service area. I asked if I could go inside the open auditorium doors a few feet to snap a few pix. The boss said no so I compromised, stood at the door, put my camera in and snapped a few. Virtually unchanged, just bicycle storage.
i was in Cornwall Bridge in late July and saw a sign for movies on the gas station for the beginning of August for Wolverine and Turbo. I’m posting the pic now.
i was there last week. it shows movies 2 to 3 times per day in the afternoon and late evening. the small staff allowed me to walk into the plain auditorium and snap a few pix. they said it has 220 pictures as correctly stated above. the other staff member thought it had 248 seats…he was corrected with 220. perhaps they did a handicapped remodel?
i was there the other day in the morning. they only show in the afternoon and evening. I walked thru, down the hall and there’s other stores and a restaurant back there. the ticket booth was closed. the stairs going up go toward the seating, no theater on the ground floor.
i was there for 5 days last week. two letters are missing in Strand and there’s the same phone number on this and the Island marquee. I will post pix soon.
A few months ago they added some new features to the interior; lighting and surround sound. There are permanent lights in the balcony that illuminate the otherwise plain dome in a blue glow. Also, either end of the stage’s grates have the same lights inside, making them glow a soft blue.
They added surround sound, so though it seems like someone is behind you it’s just 10 more speakers; 4 around the screen, 4 in the auditorium and 2 in the rear. Big difference.
There was a brief mention of the theater in this week’s East Villager. Apartments are going up in its place and it said it was demolished 15 years ago.

Actually, this was called the Post Theater which opened in 1933.

In 1980-1981 it was also known as the Whalley Avenue Theater.

This structure was built in 1896 according to vision appraisal.
What’s the point in fighting for protected status only to find out it expires?! Why? Is this typical nationwide or just in Nevada?
It was used for live concerts as well. The Grateful Dead played here on 11/15/72.
