News About This Theater
- Apr 28, 2008 — One of our last remaining Drive-Ins re-opens!
The People’s Drive-In in Barkhamsted opened in 1947. In 1948 it reopened as the People’s Forest Drive-In and in September 1948 it became the Roger’s Corner Drive-In. It later became the Pleasant Valley Drive-In It was one of only two drive-ins remaining in the state of Connecticut, as of 2014 (the Mansfield Drive-In in Mansfield Center was the other one).
Its single screen, 250 car capacity, was open seasonally on the weekends and Thursday evenings in peak summer, and showed first run movies. The McGrane family, who also own a local diner, bought this drive-in in 1995 when it was being sold due to its owner fearing competition from a new multiplex being built nearby. The Pleasant Valley Drive-In announced in March 2023 it that it was sold in December 2022 and would be permanently closed. New owners took over and in March 2023 renovations were begun.
