Warner Brothers must have spent a fortune on this neon display. I would love to see a color photo of it at night.

Look at this classic Roxy shot, they put a lit sign above the marquee advertising a sneak preview. People got to see 2 films and the stage show.

RobertR commented about Embassy 1,2,3 Theatre on May 20, 2005 at 11:29 am

The last name for a short time was Embassy 1-2-3 only because the #1 single screen house had already closed.

I passed by here this morning, the marquee is so horrible looking. It’s all plastic and so cheap looking.

They might as well just close it now, they are draining the last bit of blood out of it before the inevitable. It is sad what movie theatres are becoming today, 3-4 week ads for the DVD release. :(

I cant even fathom painting a theatre black or purple, but Elson ran this place into the ground from day 1.

Wouldnt it have been easier to build a small projection booth in the back of the house downstairs?

This is a pathetic situation, I guess it was too good to be true that Regal was going to build a new theatre. People are so willing to flock to the horrid Sheepshead Bay, seems like the whole boro goes there.

On the page showing the 1960 pictures of the “This is Cinerama” engagement, what kind of curtain is that? How did it open?

I was thinking the same issues about coming right at showtime, there will be no seats left.

Whenever for I am in the Hamptons I drive past this place, but have never gone in. I am going to make a point of doing it this summer.

RobertR commented about AMC Roosevelt Field 8 on May 3, 2005 at 8:28 am

I went here on Saturday night to catch “Guess Who”. I have to say the place was very clean, bathrooms, lobby and auditorium. I was in #5 which is one of the smaller auditoriums. The sound was fine, but my only complaint was the picture seemed dark. The bulb may have been past it’s hours or the mirror needed to be aligned.

No it was just the theatres in Downtown Brooklyn like The Albee, Fox and Duffield.

RobertR
RobertR commented about Brooklyn Paramount on May 2, 2005 at 10:38 am

The Applebee’s across the Street from the Paramount has a display wall of all the theatres that used to be in the area. They too use the picture from LA. That picture has been identified so much as the real Paramount that it’s almost become truth.
