First opened in the 1970’s, this theater was one of the few summer only theaters left in the USA. The theater is located in the resort town of Montauk, New York, in the eastern most part of the state. It was closed in November 2014 and all the equipment has been sold and removed from the building.

Great…I have never seen a picture of this theater. One of the few seasonal theaters left in the USA!
According to the manager the season is generally April to October but others factors may influence those dates, particularly the availability of a film that he particularly wants to screen. He also said the theatre goes back to the 70’s which surprises me.
I totally forgot someone on here took pics. I was racing my bike to catch the train last nite and went right past it. Had my camera in my pocket. The building is indeed very nondescript, almost the size of a small gentleman’s club.
This theater was indeed built in the 70’s. I remember seeing the first “Alien” there. It became the town movie house after the Montauk Manor Playhouse closed.
Tinseltoes the problem is unless you are a subscriber to the Wall Street Journal online you can’t access the story. A synopsis please.
Correct address is 15 S Edgemere St.
The theatre’s last movies were shown on November, 28, 2014. It shutdown rather than convert to digital projection.
Was the shutdown permanent or just the usual winter hiatus? I’m going to call the theater and see what more I can determine.
Yes, it’s true. After 30 years it’s bye, bye. When I called the Theater the message referred me to the Cinema Cycle site. On there was more info. Tomorrow, 12/1 is the final, special showing. Subsequently they’ll be having a sale of spinning and movie items.
I didn’t want to believe it was gone until I saw the Soul Cycle logo in place of the familiar “The Movie.” For the first time in my memory, Montauk has no movie theater of its own. I will wait eagerly for a new place to open.
I always wanted to see a picture of the interior of this
