Cocowalk must be one the the most uninviting of all multiplexes. Each time I’ve been there i see people getting lost trying to get in and get out. Very rude and uninterested staff!
When does the Muvico Complex open?

OH MY GOD!
Those are just amazing pictures. I’ve wondered for the best part of 30 years what the inside of this building was like. I stood across from it today thinking why it hadn’t been demolished long, long ago. The news is now devastating as Swansea starts to clean up its act but at the price of loosing these once fabulous buildings!
Thanks a million for the pictures.
One now has to be afraid for the future of The Castle Cinema and the stunning Albert Hall.

Ken, i cant believe you just posted this building. I was standing by it today and didn’t have a camera. I’ll be back in Swansea in a few weeks and will take a few shots. Its a fab looking place and is in brilliant condition on the outside. I’ve been told that in the distant past it had the name of ‘The Majestic’ for a period of time!

It was getting a bit screenless wasn’t it. The paramount not being exactly perfect- hope this is better than that cold brick of a place!

I’ve just arrived in Singapore and have just noticed that the Capitol has been given a new lick of paint. From my hotel room 38 floors above the theatre it even looks like it has a renovated roof!
Anyone have any news?
I will make some enquiries while I/m here.

Is the new complex across the road open yet and
is there an entry on this site for it yet?

Basically everyone is talking in the West End that the Odeon West End/ Leicester Square Theatre is coming down very soon.

AdoraKiaOra commented about Odeon West End on Jul 27, 2008 at 11:22 am

I know all the details of this small theatre but my original post was justing what is happening to the Odeon West End!?!?
No, that is exactly ‘The Venue’ I mean. In the last 7 or 8 years it has been reopened as a major producing house. It has new management now and reopens this month under the name ‘Leicester Square Theatre’ with a show about Hollywood designer Edith Head follwed by Joan Rivers in her new show.
So, back to my original question- what of the Leicester Sq Theatre on the lower west side of the square??

AdoraKiaOra commented about Odeon West End on Jul 27, 2008 at 7:56 am

In the last few weeks I’ve heard a lot of comments regarding the closing of this historic building.
When the news that ‘The Venue Theatre’ has been renovated and is to reopen immediately as ‘The Leicester Square Theatre’. This prompts all I speak to, to make the statement that that is OK as the older, bigger one is soon to be demolished anyway'‘. As if a 250 seater former 1940s dance hall fringe venue is to replace the movie palace on the opposite corner of the Square.
I know that redevelopment was mentioned a number of years ago for the Odeon West End side I was under the impression that that had now been abandoned. Any news otherwise????

A few weeks ago they announced Brief Encounter' would extend until mid-October. I can now tell you that in the next 2 or 3 weeks a further announcement will be made stating that it will now run until Feb 22nd 2009….at least!
To back up what Jason has just said above , I can not recommend this show enough! It is simply stunning and I saw it for the 3rd time last Sunday afternoon.
What a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon. The tickets are only £39.50 top price- most plays in the West End are topping at £55-60. Bargain!

Sounds almost as unpleasent as the experience I had across the road at the REGAL when I saw ‘Wall-E’ last Saturday!

Yes thats correct. The one North is AMC Pine 16.
I saw a great presentation of ‘Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull’ at the Cinemark a few hours ago. Very clean and very well attended for a month old movie on a Friday 10.10pm screening. I’ve seen several movies here and always choose it over, the now very tired, AMC 16 on Pine, which is a four blocks North of the Cinemark.
I’ll pop back later and take a few photos of both complexes.

AdoraKiaOra commented about After 30 years, GREASE is still the word! on Jun 14, 2008 at 4:13 am

When it opened in my home city of Swansea, me and 3 friends went on average about 3 or times a week for 5 or 6 weeks. One afternoon when we had managed to start a huge ‘singalong’ with most of the audience (we’d been trying for weeks to get one going!) when one of the usherettes came to the front of the screen and shouted at all the kids ‘'don’t you bloody kids have homes to go to??’‘ We all laughed at her and continued singing along to 'Greased Lighting’ louder!
I was in my early teens then. Little did i know that that usherette was to become my agent when I went into the theatre professionally a few years later! I did a 27 week tour of the UK in ‘Grease’ thanks to her in 1980!
