I noticed the booth looked dark. No film on this show I guess. Im just thankful my wife got called to work the show since her Broadway show closed in January. This ol projectionist doesn’t have much to do these days. Would still love to see your magnificent booth someday. You guys keep up the good work.
Went to the dress rehersal of the spring spectacular last night. It is in a word, “spectacular.” The costumes were awesome, the rain scene was incredible, and the statue of liberty, while I feel is a bit too large, was amazing as well. One downer was the video wall used for the 3D effect as well as other portions in the show, I could see some seams and some squares were brighter than others. (This coming from a former projectionist with over 37 years expeirience) And to be fair I was in the 2nd row from the stage. But otherwise, a job well done and a truely great show. Perhaps the start of a new annual tradition.
I was thinking the same thing as mdvoskin. But in fairness, its still not as bad as the page for the amc rockaway 16. In fairness, movieguy is just passionate about the theatre and I cannot fault him for that.
Oh yes I remember that popcorn room very well. Thankfully when I worked there the manager put whoever he didnt like or who was under age to work long hours back there. I only did a few shifts back there in my years there.
I passed this drive-in many times on my way to see my best friend up in Shamokin. Such a shame it has been demolished. He worked there a few times in the 80’s.
By all means, keep rambling. I do it all the time, having been a projectionist for over 39 years. I had a good friend who worked here in the late 70’s, at the same time I worked at the Menlo Park and Woodbridge Twins. We would always let their staff in for free and they would let ours in for free. Those old theatres and drive ins beat any multiplex of today.
UATC08, I worked on the AMC conversion in Mountainside NJ from end of May to end of Aug 2014. 10 screens. They completely gutted and remodeled the entire place in that time, while keeping at least 4 screens open at all times. Im sure once AMC has their plans finalized, you will see this place redone in 2 to 3 months tops.
DaveM, thats different than the way they did the Jersey in Jersey City. There, they dropped the wall down from the balcony cutting off the front part of the orchestra. They split the area under the balcony for cinema 2 & 3, and the balcony became cinema 1. All the seats in the front orchestra were removed.
With all the wonderful photos of the newly opened Kings, can we get a photo on the page showing that, instead of the plastic covered chairs? I think the Kings deserves it.
Well maybe another time. I got called into work for……you guessede it, 12 noon. Maybe I will get here to see a concert in the near future. If someone can post photos, it would be great.
walterk, Happy New year. I havent been by the Ritz lately, as I was very sick most of January. My wife said the block across the street from the parking lot has been completely demolished. As the weather warms I will swing by and check on the progress.
This theatre, along with the Amboys Multiplex Cinemas, were built and opened at the same time. Amboys closed 10 years ago this coming May after the lobby floor caved in. Its a shame this one is gonna close. Hope something good happens to it. The Amboys is just sitting there rotting away.
The 35mm print of “Interstellar” looked and sounded FANTASTIC tonight. And of course all my changeovers were flawless. I havent lost a step in 35 years.
Very interesting and sad history of the once great GCC.
Having worked for National Amusements as a projectionist for 20 years, its sad to see this company as a shell of its former self.

Lets hope for that. Went by it just last night.

Thank goodness. Still hope it can be saved.
Matt, it was posted earlier the auditorium is demolishede. Are you saying it still there? Or just the lobby as has been previously posted.
Jack, I use to clean the screens at this theatre. You cant believe what an abortion it is.

I cant stand 3D. I was the last projectionist to work at Menlo Park. I started there during Star Wars.

Great Job Bill. Sorry I had to miss it.

@Jeffrey1955, yours are cut off to the right also. Maybe its my screen setting. @Matt Lambros, thanks so much. My wife and I hope to make it.
LuisV, your comment above is cut off to the right. What is going on Saturday Feb 7th? Is it a tour of the theate?? I would love to go if it is.
Oh Im sorry I missed it. I’ll have to try and catch it if they ever repeat it.
