In the October 2000 expansion to 10 screens, Cinema Entertainment Corporation made one of the screens an IWERKS' ESTREME SCREEN, which is a large format cinema. As far as I can tell Marcus has no large format screen at the theater.
I think it’s interesting that Marcus Theaters sells White Castle Hamburgers.
5600 South 900 East is about 1/3 mile too far East. Somewhere it is mentioned that the Drive-In was accross the Street from the Murray City Cemetery and somewhere else I found an address of 5600 and Vine and it all matches up. Now an apartment complex.
Owners:
1967-1973 National General Theaters & Fox-Intermontain Midwest Theaters
May have got its name from the JETS that flew in and out of the U.S. Naval Air Station New Orleans at Belle Chase just accross Lake Salvador from Cut Off?
Gulf States Theaters, Inc., of McComb, Miss, T.G. Solomon, President, had 90 theaters in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas.
Martin Theaters of Georgia, Inc. & Martin Theaters of Alabama, Inc. in the Martin Bldg., Columbus, Ga., Roy E. Martin Jr. Chairman of the Board had 159 theaters in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Martin CINERAMA, New Orleans, Louisiana, Martin CINERAMA, St. Louis, Missouri, Tennessee, Virginia and Seattle, Martin CINERAMA, Seattle, Washington.
Can somone check and see if this building is a Quonset Hut? From the Map and the aerial photo the building looks like a Quonset Hut. The U.S. Navy developed the Quonset Hut in World War II. That somehow makes no sense with opening in 1923. Sorta seems neat for the American Legion to meet in a Quonset Hut.
Early 1990’s opened with 6 screens by Enertainment Management Corp.
By 1998 taken over by Hoyts Cinemas LLC
2005 taken over by Entertainment Cinemas
20?? Boston Culinary Group, Theater Division
I notice the Website states EAST BRIDGEWATER CINEMA 5 (FIVE) and in fact only lists 5 (FIVE) movies being shown. My guess is the other theater is now a restaurant. Could someone in the area check this out and let us know what is going on?
