Just go to AMC’s website and click on IMAX.

moviebuff82 commented about AMC Rockaway Inner 6/Outer 6 on Nov 22, 2008 at 1:16 pm

Had the AMC Outer six become a Circuit City, it would’ve suffered the same fate as others in the area (the closest is in Ledgewood). There are no traces of the original Rockaway theaters left, even during the renovation period that the mall went under this year.

On the wikipedia page for AMC Theaters, you can see an image of this theater’s sister, the former Loews in Alderwood. The only difference is that the Alderwood has a staircase going up to the lobby and several antennas around the theater, similar to the Garden State 16 theater in Paramus. I was riding with my Dad around the Mall looking for a bite to eat, and the place was packed. Ever since the theater opened more than two years ago, mall attendance, traffic, and the population have increased. Maybe AMC should open a second-run house where Linens n'Things will go out of business!!!

They should do that to the AMC in my town, to go along with the upcoming IMAX screen in 1Q 09.

moviebuff82 commented about Parent company of Technicolor Digital to install more digital systems at theaters worldwide on Nov 22, 2008 at 1:06 pm

With the release of Bolt, Clearview has nearly all of its busiest theaters equipped with DLP. That will increase with future releases.

This year, my local theater is now showing this series, although tickets are more expensive than movie tickets!!! Plus, it’s longer than any movie that plays at the theater.

moviebuff82 commented about Wall Street financing massive digital conversion program on Nov 22, 2008 at 1:03 pm

Recently Clearview has converted some of its busiest theaters to digital cinema, probably installing nearly all of its screens before this decade is over.

Tonight at 10, the Mel Brooks comedy classic “History of the World Part I” is playing. Tickets are still available for this film. It’s a good movie that I saw first on VHS. Worth seeing on the big screen due to its lavish budget values.

This theater was recently installed with digital projection for the release of Bolt in 3-D, as well as several other Clearviews in the area.

Tomorrow’s new releases should appeal to mostly the teens and families that always pack this theater during the weekend. Bolt (in 2-D) and Twilight. Bolt is getting good reviews, but Twilight isn’t. I’m skipping both and saving my money for Australia, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Benjamin Button, and The Spirit. And three days from now will be two months until IMAX comes to Rockaway, upon which a re-release of The Dark Knight might play although I’m getting the Blu-Ray for Christmas (which has those IMAX scenes). As for Disney and IMAX, the Mouse House inked a deal with them to make more of its movies ready for the IMAX screen, which was last seen in Fantasia 2000.

moviebuff82 commented about Disney Cruise Line is going Digital 3D on Nov 20, 2008 at 2:39 pm

Great story!!! Even in a slow economy, people still like to escape on large cruises like the Disney ships, which are still popular even though I don’t see a lot of ads about it on tv.

BTW, an aide to one of my roomates who lives in town saw a late showing of QoS last night and didn’t see the trailer. I read on some movie gossip websites that the trailer didn’t get attached to nearly all of the prints for the new James Bond movie, meaning fewer screens would get the 2 minute preview. Just like with Zack and Miri before, AMC is cutting out the green/red bands before the trailers just like they used to when I went to its predecessor.

Yes they did. It was worth the price of admission alone, although I wanted to also see the new Watchmen trailer which I saw last night online on Youtube.

Hey PeterApruzzese, I saw a James Bond movie on the same showtime as the other one in your comment. Quantum of Solace, which is way shorter than Casino Royale. Lots of fast action, very little storyline. Sound was decent, although they needed to turn on the right channel for the music to be in stereo (surrounds and center channel were working and the bass too). Also, near the very end, the very bottom of the screen was a bit dark, making reading the numerous subtitles very hard although I wear glasses. Crowd was well behaved, and the food was good (I had a popcorn and diet coke which I shared with my Dad). No splices during the movie too!!!

moviebuff82 commented about The growing scarcity of quality 35 mm prints for classic film screenings on Nov 11, 2008 at 9:49 am

Clearview does a classics program in which they show fully restored 35mm prints for smaller theaters and 70mm prints for bigger theaters like the Ziegfeld. Don’t forget that Bluray offers a picture that’s just as good as 35mm.

moviebuff82 commented about Cinepolis Mansfield on Nov 11, 2008 at 9:43 am

Just checked the Clearview website and the price went up to $10.50, the same price as the AMC’s evening price in Rockaway. This will also affect other clearviews around the area. The advantage is that they’ll still show upcoming movies in Digital projection as well as 3-D.

moviebuff82
moviebuff82 commented about Radio City Music Hall on Nov 10, 2008 at 3:04 pm

Maybe not, since this will keep attendance down at the Hall with a bad economy affecting ticket sales, but annual showings of the show on MSG as well sales of the DVD will generate some much needed cash to Cablevision, not Time-Life, as its profit slowed down at many of its businesses, including Clearview Cinemas.

moviebuff82 commented about IMAX will expand into AMC theaters on Nov 9, 2008 at 5:40 pm

That is because the screen is 1.43:1 and not 1.85. I was watching Zack and Miri at the AMC and they had scenes in which camera footage was shown in 4:3 style. That is what the IMAX system will look like when it opens at the AMC in Rockaway soon.

moviebuff82 commented about AMC Rockaway 16 on Nov 9, 2008 at 3:19 pm

Just came back from a 12:55 showing of Zack and Miri…great movie. Projection was a bit blurry and there were some minor splices, and the sound mix was a bit buzzy, plus there were only like 10 or so people in one screen compared to Madagascar 2’s four screens with lots of kids and their families!!! BTW, I hope they show “The Dark Knight” in IMAX digital since it might be re-released by Warner that month for Oscar consideration.

January 23, 2009 is the date that the AMC in my town will be having one of its screens converted to the IMAX D format. Probably they’ll show The Day the Earth Stood Still since it will open more than a month before the start date of the new theater.
