I was hoping First Man would have been put out on 5/70MM film. I would have had a shot at running it, ad I think film would have given it real depth.

While working at the arena yesterday, I took a walk by the paramount where they are getting ready for a new Warner Brothers film shoot next week. They took the “K” off of Newark on the marquee. The workers said its because they cant have Newark in the film. They will also be shooting on the road by the Adams theatre.

Well with managers having to take care of booth duties these days, I guess they just don’t have time to take care of old xenon bulbs and other projection issues.

It was an RKO-Stanley Warner, and an RKO Century Warner before closing up.

thehorror13, simple answer. Less maintenance. No motors to burn out. No pulleys getting stuck on tracks. I hate it too, since in all my 42 years as a projectionist, Im use to masking. Its just another byproduct of digital. With film, masking could cover any imperfections with the projector aperture. Digital gives you nice straight ridged lines.

alpinedownhiller thanks again. When I ran H8 and Dunkirk at the Regal E Walk for almost 3 weeks each, as well as Murder on The Orient Express for 4 weeks and Phantom Thread for 11 weeks at this theatre, all the prints went back dirt free and scratch free. Its what I do.

alpinedownhiller, thank for your kind words about the 70MM showing at Paramus. I took great pride in setting up those lights the proper way. My partner and I made sure it was done right, just like in 1968.

Not with me. I grew up with a family of projectionists. I was taught SHOWMANSHIP.

bigjoe59, my wife and I went to the Cinemark in Hazlet NJ last night to try to see this movie. They had it on 2 screens, and all shows were sold out. Ended up at AMC Jersey Gardens, where they also had it on 2 screens. Our theatre had about 150 seats of which at least half, if not more were full.

This is what happens when A) there is NO projectionist, the whole thing is run by a computer, and B) you have people who have no idea how to handle showings of movies like this. When I ran H8 at the Regal E Walk, or 2001 at the AMC Garden State, the first thing I did was tell management to take the entire theatre off automation. I started, raised and lower lights and shut down everything myself. 2001 at Garden State was perfect. Its just too bad it only played one week.

They should show a 5/70MM version at the Regal E Walk across the street from the Empire. FILM.

bigjoe59, it will be IMAX. I was in contact with Warner Bros when I heard it was coming because if it was 70MM my team would have been running it. We don’t do the IMAX.

Bill Huelbig, No I will not. The theatre had retained Local 306 projectionists for 70MM IMAX showings. I’m hoping something comes along soon. I only worked two days all of July and have nothing till August 18.

bigjoe59, at the AMC conversions I worked on a few years back, the screen sizes are usually the same size or bigger than before.

Looks like the built some small gas storage towers on the southwest corner and the rest is all storage containers. A regular industrial looking area. You would never know a movie theatre or drive in ever existed.

moviebuff82, Fox showed Murder on the Orient Express last nov and Focus showed Phanthom Thread for 3 months the beginning of this year. They have to make arrangement with Warners to use the equipment since Warners owns it.
