The Rahway Theatre opened on October 16, 1928 with a seating capacity of 1,449. The opening movie was Ricardo Cortez in “The Grain of Dust”. Organist Chet Kingsbury opened the Wurlitzer 2 manual 7 ranks organ.
This former movie and vaudeville house in Rahway, New Jersey has been reborn as a performing arts and concert venue that still shows classic films from time to time. The main original auditorium now seats 1,340.
The Performing Arts Center also has other spaces used as live theatre and performing arts spaces. There is also the Loft studio space which seats 60. The Union County Performing Arts Center also includes a separate building housing the Hamilton Stage for the Performing Arts which has a main stage seating 199 and another studio space seating 60. The Wurltzer organ is still played for silent movies and also when classic films are screened.

Mark the Projectionist here folks. This Sunday starting at 1 pm, we have 2 pristine prints of Sidney Poitier movies. At 1 pm “To Sir With Love”, and at 3:30 “In the Heat of the Night”, with organ playing between shows. Not to be missed. These prints are in tip top shape.
8 PM tonight, 35mm directed by the late Peter Bogdanovich “The Last Picture Show” (1971) $8 includes free popcorn with pipe organ at 7:30 PM by Eric Fahner before the movie.
The prints of “Strangers on a Train”, and “North by Northwest” are inspected and in pristine condition. Shows on July 22 and 23.
Dont forget everyone, this Sunday Oct 30 at 3 pm is Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. See it on 35MM pristine archive print from Warner Bros.
Just finished inspecting the print of “The Freshman”. Its a mint condition print. Dont forget it will be accompany by live organ. 3 pm Sunday.
Just finished tomorrows movie “Muppets Christmas Carol.” Print is in decent condition. Very surprised for a 30 year print. I also inspected Januarys movie “Once Upon A Time in Hollywood.” A brand New never used print.
THe Jan 6 print, as mentioned above, is brand new never run print.
This Saturday at 730, Do The Right Thing on 35MM film. Print is a Universal vault print in beautiful condition.
The print of Grease Sing-a-Long has been inspected and ready for showing on May 16. It is in pristine condition.
Tomorrows movie Nightmare on Elm Street and next thursdays movie The Lost Boys have both been inspected and the prints are in excellent condition.
