With the closing of the edgewater cinemas last week, this is the only National Amusements/Showcase theater to be left in the garden state.

Went to the Fathom Event of Ben-Hur last night. Sound kicked butt. Loved the overture and entr'acte with just a blank screen and not the word on the screen. They put a still card in with a 10 minute countdown for the Intermission. As close as you can get to how it was back in the day. And shown in 2.76 ratio.

Saw the Batman 1989 40th Anniversary screening here. Very nice image and sound but they didn’t use any masking. Film is flat AR and the black bars weren’t covered up. I thought about saying something but figured nothing could be done about it.

The new norm. All new builds and most renos don’t use masking anymore. When I helped upgrade the AMC Mountainside 10, we did away with all the masking. This theatre did the same years ago.

That’s terrible. So any movie shot in flat AR will have black bars? I believe Justice League was flat and had proper masking in Dolby Cinema Monmouth Mall

Your going to see black bars on Flat and Scope ratios.

Why would someone see black bars with scope? Not following you

Because they are doing the same thing that Turner Classic Movies does. Black on top and bottom. Flat will either fill the screen or have black on the sides. Doesent help that all these mangers know nothing about ratios.
