100 Years at the Ojai
OJAI, CA — There’s more than just movies at the Ojai Theatre to celebrate its 100th Annviersary. The Ojai Valley Museum is going all out with an exhibit through December tracing the history of the theatre and its place in the community. A mini theater at the museum will play classic films and artifacts will display the history of the building and its various owners. Pieces on movie stars that have spent time in the area will also be on display.

Curbed celebrates Brooklyn’s Fox
BROOKLYN, NY — It’s 40+ years too late for a restoration like the Kings but Curbed is taking a look back at the magnificent Fox Theatre on Flatbush Avenue. The palace had a checkered history opening right before the Great Depression and later becoming a rock concert venue. Check out the vintage photos and more as this treasure is remembered.

Two Missouri chains combine
LIBERTY, KS — Two theatre operators with almost 200 years of combined experience are joining forces with B&B’s acquisition of Dickinson Theatres. Rebranding will happen immediately and the new entity will be one of the top ten largest in the country with 408 screens across 50 locations.

Hollywood in Portland to add 70mm
PORTLAND, OR — Just 16mm and 35mm weren’t enough for the Hollywood Theatre. They’re now raising money to bring in a 70mm projector and not just to show “Interstellar.”

The Nitehawk celebrates the Deuce
BROOKLYN, NY — The Nitehawk Cinema just launched a film series to honor the Deuce, the former group of theatres on 42nd Street between 7th and 8th Avenue. The second Thursday of each month, they’ll show a film specifically in tribute to a certain theatre on the row from its heyday.

Judge backs Monroe’s purchase of closed movie theater
MONROE, NY — It’s been a strange trip so far for a theatre that only opened in 2008. The Monroe 6 looks like it will be purchased by the city but to be reopened, not converted into a city services building as was the original plan. In between, there were two lawsuits.

Temple Theatre makes the jump to digital
HOULTON, ME — The 95-year-old Temple Theatre is a small town gem that’s gotten a lot of love and support from its loyal operators. They’ve wanted to sell it though and with new digital projection and ownership of the adjacent parking lot, it’s a nice package for someone ready to be its steward for the next generation.
