Rivergate Cinema 14 in Macon closes; to re-open as The Edge 14 after renovations
MACON, GA — Regal closed the Rivergate Cinema 14 on August 29. The cinema, opened in 1991, has been acquired by Naos Entertainment, which plans to reopen it later this year after a million dollar makeover. Naos recently renovated a former Regal theater in Birmingham, AL which is now called The Edge which is what this theater will known as when it is renovated.
Felts said furnishings and upgrades at the Macon multiplex will be similar to those in the company’s other theaters.
According to the Naos website, all auditoriums feature “wall-to-wall screens, stadium seating with 18-inch risers for backs and lifting cup holder arm rests for the ultimate in comfort.”

New theater planned for Ozark
OZARK, MO — B&B Theatres is hoping that its new theater anticipated to be built here will be open by next Memorial Day weekend. It is estimated that the cost will be seven million. Initially, the theater will have ten screens, with the capacity to add two more, and is currently to be named the Ozark-Nixa Cinema.
The theater would be the only one in Christian County and the first located in Ozark in several decades. The Ozark Theater on the square closed in the late 1960s.
Thursday was the first time the company, based in Liberty, had publicly discussed the theater plans since word first spread in March 2009 that it was interested in building a theater in Ozark.

Warner Theatre in Morgantown to Close
MORGANTOWN, WV — The Warner Theatre in Morgantown, WV has closed as of Sept. 5, 2010.
“The theater was actually opened June 12th 1931 and it cost $400,000. And originally built by the Warner Brothers, her in Morgantown. And the first show that was shown, I believe, was the Millionaire. And the lines were out the door and around the block. This was the center of activity in Morgantown, for a long time,” said Ron Davis, Warner Theater General Manager.
But keeping up an old theater is very costly.
Recently, the air conditioning system went out and this is what finally made the decision to close the doors, but faithful patrons are having trouble saying good bye.

AMC Empire 25 reports bedbugs
NEW YORK, NY — Growing reports in New York City of bedbugs have now come in from the AMC Empire 25.
Spokesman Justin Scott said all AMC theaters in Manhattan were inspected. He said the chain takes every report seriously and acts to ensure the health of guests and employees.

Admiral Twin Drive-In Consumed by Fire
TULSA, OK – The Admiral Twin Drive-In was destroyed by fire on Thursday, September 2. The 1951 drive-in was a complete loss and the future of the site is unknown. More information at the Tulsa World website.

Local group wants to acquire Chief Plaza 4 for arts center
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, CO — A group calling itself the Friends of the Chief has entered into a purchasing agreement to acquire the Chief Plaza 4 return it to a single auditorium configuration as it was originally, and use it for a range of cultural events.
Friends of the Chief member Towny Anderson said restoring the small multiplex to a cultural venue that would seat as many as 470 could establish a new gathering place for the community.
“It’s more than nostalgia,” Anderson said. “It’s like getting a piece of your Main Street back in community hands. It re-establishes what they call the village well.”
