Rare movie posters found glued together going to auction
An attic in Pennsylvania was the site for a recent classic film poster discovery. Glued together for 80 years, the lot purchased for $30,000 is expected to fetch around $250,000 at an auction in Texas this month.

Luxury theatre lures high-end retailers to heart of city
RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, CA — A new location for the Cinepolis chain within the former Edwards 6 is already bringing in new upscale retailers to the neighborhood. The promise of a unique theatre with various high-end amenities has restaurants and shops lining up to get space nearby.

Sensory Friendly Films offers a safe movie haven
A new program in select AMC theaters is making it easier for people with sensory issues to go to the movies. In more than 150 theaters across the country, AMC presents screenings with the sound down and lights up in order to making it more pleasant for those with autism.

HYATTSVILLE, MD — Demolished almost 50 years ago, the Hyattsville Theatre was featured in the Hyattsville Patch. Designed by John Eberson, some shops now fill the space where the theatre stood.

Instead of totally bashing them because of the onslaught of people calling/texting during movies, some chains are celebrating the advance in technology. New apps are helping patrons purchase tickets in advance, read reviews and even figure out the best time to take a bathroom break.

KY man reopens Cocke Co. movie theater
NEWPORT, KY — Just a man and a dream as Branden Joynt reopened the Newport Cinema 4 the other week. He just moved over 200 miles to takeover the theatre that closed its doors a year ago. They plan on showing first-run films at affordable prices.

Hollywood and the Oscars tribute in new Bay Area monumental mural
HAYWARD, CA — Hollywood celebrated the Oscars last week and the movie ‘The Artist,’ a black-and-white film celebrating Hollywood history, meanwhile, in the Bay Area, Award-Winning Artist Andrew Kong Knight is putting the final touches on his final monumental mural in the series called “Hayward Meets Hollywood.”
Knight’s latest three story high, mega mural called “Night at the Silver Screen,” depicts a famous black-and-white film scene, from one of Hollywood’s most memorable Oscar winning epics of all time set in a classic Art Deco theatre interior, complete with velvet curtains. (See attached photos.)

Theater not returning to the Ideal
BALTIMORE, MD — Despite the hopes of some locals, the Ideal will not return to life as a theatre. Avenue Antiques will be extending their business next door and make it another multi-vendor space. The building opened as a theatre in 1908.

Grand Cinemas ticket booth to become info kiosk
MILWAUKEE, WI — Not quite reopening many have been hoping for but the Grand Cinemas will get some new life soon. Marcus Corp. (the theatre’s owner) along with some city agencies, are working together to renovate the theatre' ticket booth into an information kiosk for tourists and other visitors.
