LRS tickets onsale today
LOS ANGELES, CA — The Los Angeles Conservancy’s popular annual film series, Last Remaining Seats, will go onsale to the general public today. This year’s selections feature such classic as “The Big Sleep” and the “Paper Moon”. Some of the theatres featured are rarely open to the public or even less often show films. The series typically sells out quickly so don’t wait to make your purchase.

Another Manhattan theater bites the dust: UA East 85th Street
NEW YORK, NY — The New York Post reported the closing of the United Artists East 85th Street last week. As the article shows, Manhattan screens have been dwindling for years.

Auburn raises $80,000 to save movie theater
AUBURN, NE — Community support has kept the State Theater going after many years. They had a recent successful initiative to raise funds for a digital conversion and they continue to work with schools on programming as the district owns it.

Wal-Mart threatening Cottage View Drive-In
COTTAGE GROVE, MN — A new Super Wal-Mart could go up in place of the beloved Cottage View Drive-In. As one of two remaining drive-ins left in the area, the potential closing could be devastating but maybe inevitable due to the costs of a digital upgrade.

Alamo Drafthouse moving into vacant Metro Theater
NEW YORK, NY — All New York is buzzing about the arrival of Alamo Drafthouse as they plan to reopen the Metro Theater next year. The five screen theater had already been gutted to prepare it for retail use so this Alamo will be built from scratch.

Pasco’s Liberty Theater to be refurbished into retail space
PASCO, WA — New life is coming to the former Liberty Theatre but not in the form of entertainment. While they hope to restore the facade, the interior is being demolished to make it attractive for retail use.

EDGARTOWN, MA — Theaters on Martha’s Vineyard like Entertainment Cinemas are having trouble keeping up with their counterparts off the island. Blink Fitness signs 19,200 SF lease at former Jamaica movie theater
JAMAICA, NY — The former Merrick Theater is becoming the next location of Blink Fitness. Its 2,500 seat capacity will now be utilized by almost 20,000 feet of gym space across two floors, when it opens this fall.

Portage may get landmark status
CHICAGO, IL — As the ongoing saga continues over the future of the Portage Theater, there could be some hope for the building’s future as a theatre. The Commission on Chicago Landmarks is meeting tomorrow to discuss landmarking the theatre and thus preventing any major modifications.
