Time running out for the Hampton Arts
WESTHAMPTON BEACH, NY — The Hampton Arts only has till the end of the month to reach its Kickstarter goal for a digital projector. The 1927 summer theatre needs to raise $125K to save its two screens.

Last Denver-area drive-in
COMMERCE CITY, CO — The 88 Drive-In is in danger and it’s not because of a digital projector for a change. The popular drive-in has been inciting traffic jams and they can’t afford the changes the city wants them to make to rectify the situation.

Historic West Seattle movie theater facing money woes
SEATTLE, WA — The days could be numbered for the Admiral Theater. It still hasn’t converted to digital wants to make other upgrades as well with a bill of $600K. It could close by the end of the year if a resolution isn’t reached.

Fight to save the Retlaw
FOND DU LAC, WI — The Retlaw Theater is in danger of being torn down for a parking lot for a new building next store. The 1925 theatre has been closed for the past seven years but is still structurally sound. A Friends of the Retlaw group is fighting to stall the plans but with the city receiving state grant money for the redevelopment, it’ll be a tough one.

Curtains for the Prince Music Theater?
PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Prince Music Theater has done well since reopening but not well enough to sustain the loss of its major donor. Processed-meat magnate Herb Lotman recently passed away and he almost single-handedly was leading the charge for the theatre’s survival. Now it’s unclear if the venue that’s hosted touring shows and local musical groups will be able to continue.

NEW YORK, NY — Curbed posted some great new shots last weekend of the shuttered Loew’s Canal Theatre. It’s falling apart, year by year, but hopefully the recent restoration of the Loew’s Kings will spark someone to step up and save it.

Stanley movie theater fights to stay open
STANLEY, WI — A neighborhood treasure, the 1936 Stanley Theater is in danger of closing unless $60,000 can be raised for a digital projector. They’ve recently launched a Kickstarter campaign but have a long way to go to save it.

SCRANTON, PA — The Marquee Cinemas are in danger of closing as the adjacent mall is up for sale. It could close as early as next month but thankfully there are numerous interested parties.

City council grants Century 21 dome theater historical status
SAN JOSE, CA — Even the mayor questioning its historic status wasn’t enough to silence the support to save the Century 21. City Council voted Tuesday to grant the domed gem status with potential national recognition on the way.

Former movie house on the clock
ROANOKE RAPIDS, SC — Shuttered for years, the Peoples Theater is under court order to be torn down or brought up to code. The owner has not made a public comment but past efforts to renovate it have failed. While the theatre presents no danger at the moment, it’s been decaying for years.
