Adelaide Regent Closes After 75 Years
ADELAIDE, AUSTRALIA — On Wednesday, the 75-year run of the Regent Theatre came to an end with a screening of the Billy Wilder film Seven Year Itch, according to a report in the Advertiser.
As chronicled in a previous report on Cinema Treasures, the theater is being closed by the Hoyts theater chain due to poor attendance and escalating operating costs.

Stamford’s Avon Theatre Reopens
STAMFORD, CT — The Avon Theatre is due to reopen this month, according to a report in the Stamford Advocate.
The theater, which closed down in November 1999, was originally opened in 1939. A $1 million renovation has made this cinema look better the new with refurbished seats, new carpets, and much new equipment in the booth.

Edwards Temple Cinema 4 Goes Dark
TEMPLE CITY, CA — The Edwards Temple Cinema 4, which sits on the spot of the 2nd Temple Theatre, at 9021 Las Tunas Drive, is dark, and the marquee is blank. It’s been this way now for at least a week. From speaking with people who used to go there, some have said that the inside was not being kept up. Others say that a restaurant is to be built there. Sad to see!

‘Bittersweet’ Closing in Greeley
GREELEY, CO — The Bittersweet 4 in Greeley closed this Sunday after the owner of the four-plex sold the theater to a developer, according to the Greeley Tribune.
Regal Entertainment, which operated the Bittersweet, did not renew its lease on the theater. Developers, which plan to build a Walgreens drugstore on the site, are also eyeing Regal’s other Greeley movie house, the Cooper Twin, one of only a few twins remaining in Colorado.

Eastern Federal Closes Delta 6 Theatre
CHARLOTTE, NC — After 15 years of operation, Eastern Federal has closed the Delta 6. Employees unfortunately were given two days notice. The building and land are for sale/lease.
On a side note, the Delta 6’s sister theater, Movie at the Lake (Hunsterville, NC), sits very close to a recently closed, not yet 5 year-old, independent theater that is now advertising the showtimes and website for EF.

PITTSBURG, CA — After months of plan checks and red tape, the Enean Theatre will reopen as an autoparts store. Maybe next time, next restoration, will be to bring it back.

Temple Theatre Reopens Tonight
SAGINAW, MI — The Saginaw News reports that the Temple Theatre will reopen tonight with a “Temple Tribute” show. The theater is an old vaudeville house that’s been updated to modern building codes and restored to its original 1927 appearance.

Fox II Theater Closed; To Be Donated To City?
HAYS, KANSAS — According to reports from the Hays Daily News, Dickinson Theaters has closed the Fox II Theater (in downtown Hays, Kansas) and is in negotiations to donate it to the City of Hays. A committee has been formed by the city, and a few ideas on how to preserve the theater have been proposed. An indoor park has been raised as one idea, and also running art and educational films (which Dickinson does not play in their first run houses).
