‘Bittersweet’ Closing in Greeley

GREELEY, CO — The Bittersweet 4 in Greeley closed this Sunday after the owner of the four-plex sold the theater to a developer, according to the Greeley Tribune.

Regal Entertainment, which operated the Bittersweet, did not renew its lease on the theater. Developers, which plan to build a Walgreens drugstore on the site, are also eyeing Regal’s other Greeley movie house, the Cooper Twin, one of only a few twins remaining in Colorado.

Regal’s decision not to renew the lease on the Bittersweet is not said be related to the upcoming opening of Cinemark’s 12-screen at the Greeley Mall this spring.

What a cool name for a theatre.

This sounds too familiar. I’m fairly sure it had to do with the cost of maintaining the building v/s the actual cash flow. In truth the opening of the 12 plex would have ultimately closed the theatre. :( Can anyone get pictures of this theatre? I am keeping a photos data base of theatre that have “closed” since our merger.

We took some decent pictures of the Bittersweet for Cinematour. You can check them out over there. As far as the Cooper Twin we couldn’t get good pictures of that place, the lobby was way too small to take anything without management freaking out. But it is SUCH a tacky 70’s theatre. It really is a sight to see.
