    Two Missouri chains combine


    LIBERTY, KS — Two theatre operators with almost 200 years of combined experience are joining forces with B&B’s acquisition of Dickinson Theatres. Rebranding will happen immediately and the new entity will be one of the top ten largest in the country with 408 screens across 50 locations.

    Theater owners complain about Interstellar film release

    After theater owners struggled to convert to digital the past few years, Hollywood is doing an about face with an upcoming release strategy that will be favorable to those with film projectors. Christopher Nolan, poster boy for keeping film alive, has convinced studios to release his upcoming film “Interstellar” in various formats including 70mm, 35mm and IMAX 70mm. Those film formats will be distributed a few days early too.

    While it’s great for the consumer, is passing another projection cost back to the exhibitor fair?

  • Johnny Rockets to partner with drive-in theaters

    Johnny Rockets is getting ready to serve up more than just burgers. USA Drive-Ins is planning to open 200 new drive-ins where Johnny Rockets' menu will be available in most locations. This is part of Johnny Rockets' Route 66 Initiative, placing special emphasis on car-culture.

    Italy invests in cinemas


    KFTV has reported that Italy has dramatically shifted to directing dollars towards its film industry with new generous tax credits for productions. In addition to that, they’re showing some love for their cinemas with a 30% rebate for restoration projects.

    New theater regulations from the DOJ

    The Justice Department ruled to put new regulations in place to have most theaters in the U.S. provide closed-captioning and audio description for the visually and hearing impaired. It’s unclear how long it will take to rollout and which theaters may be excluded.

    Survey finds Twitter fills movie theater seats

    Variety recently reported that a growing number of movie ticket purchases are based on promotion through twitter. Users are paying attention more to movies based on the tweets released by friends and content from the studios.
