Donations Accepted for Broadway in Pitman, NJ
PITMAN, NJ — Chamber of Commerce Helping to Save Vaudeville Era Gem. Broadway May Become Performance Venue, Courier-Post Reports
“The projector at the Broadway Theatre has likely flickered for the last time,” reports Tim Zatzariny in the Courier-Post online edition on April 21, 2005. “But there’s a good chance the bankrupt, 79-year-old former vaudeville house will live on as a performance venue, a court-appointed trustee said Wednesday.”
After a sheriff’s sale was averted by a consent order given by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, the trustee has 90 days to find a buyer. “I’ve had a couple of people look at it,” the Courier-Post quotes the attorney in charge. “The two that have shown the most interest are looking at it as a live theater. It will no longer be a movie theater. That doesn’t seem to be a consideration.”

Help The Miramar Theatre
MILWAUKEE, WI — The Miramar Theatre is in urgent need of funding to keep its doors open. We are facing foreclosure and need a minimum $70,000 by May 1st to paydown back mortgage payments and taxes.
This crisis comes on the eve of an agreement with a major local client prepared to enter into a 5-10 year rental of the building, and along with us still presenting shows this will make enough money to keep the Miramar open for many more years. We have an agreement in place but nothing can be finished until the building is secured.
I have owned the 360-seat theatre for 7 years and have hosted many wonderful productions, concerts and have worked with many community-based theatre companies and performers. We have a full liquor license and are looking for sponsors, angels or investors we are offering naming rights,product placement or any other type of benefit for the investor or sponsor (auto dealers sponsor theaters in Chicago).

One Screen From 1925 Needs TLC
CUYAHOGA FALLS, OH — I know of a classic one screen theater in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio that sits empty in need of an owner. I would like to be that owner but don’t have the money to refurbish it. I am having trouble finding any type of grant or other money source.
Built in 1925 as a silent movie theater with a piano for backgorund music, it was fitted for sound a few years later. The theater closed around 1983 and has been empty ever since.
The city of Cuyahoga Falls currently owns the property but has not maintained it very well. It has two apartments above it and small store fronts on each side that are included with the building.

Old Screen Available?
Can anyone help this man dedicated to opening a vintage screenings venue for local college kids? His registered non-profit “Brady Street Film Center” is a conversion of portions of his Brady Street Pharmacy which prior to 1954 was the Astor Theater, a 1912 cinema.
If you are ever in Milwaukee, you must stop by the pharmacy on Brady St. at Astor St. and see the unusual transformation! Contact him directly via his email address if you can be of help.

We need a small perforated snow white screen – used. We can re-cut to fit our frame – about 10 x 20'. Please pass this on. Perhaps some one knows of a theater that is about to come down.

Art Theater Seeks 35mm Projector
BINGHAMTON, NY — Here in Binghamton, earlier this year we lost the Art Theatre, our last operating old-style theater, in a devastating fire (see previous story).
We are attempting to come back from the ashes. It won’t be the 90 year old theater, but we hope to bring the atmosphere and ambiance that you would have been able to find there. We’ve been showing art films in a local space to raise money and keep awareness up.
We have a wonderful opportunity to boost our efforts, but are lacking one vital piece. Does anyone know of a source for a working, reasonably priced 35mm projector? We’re scurrying and searching, but coming up empty locally. My hope is that someone out there will have what we need!

Northumberland’s Wallaw Cinema Closes
BLYTH, ENGLAND — Unfortunately, due to lack of demand, Northumberland’s historic cinema, the Wallaw, has drawn its curtains for the last time. Despite many attempts to get a lot of public support behind the small, but comfortable theater house, the owners have decided to close.

Grove Theatre in Peril After Refusing to Perform Play
PLEASANT GROVE, UT – The Grove Theatre has been in financial peril since August 2003, when a cast member and a journalist reported the theater to copyright monitor Samuel French, Inc. for planning to perform Neil Simon’s play “Rumors” without profanity.
After being told that she “must present the play as written or not at all,” owner Gayliene Omary decided to cancel the play rather than go against community standards. The journalist then wrote a column on the situation he helped create, saying, “How Samuel French learned of the alterations is a mystery worthy of Agatha Christie…”

Looking for Funds to Refurbish Old Smalltown Theater
I have started to refurbish an old 600 seat theater in a small Indiana town about one hour from Indinapolis, Indiana. I have been in the theater business for almost 17 years now, and I have been looking for an indoor and or outdoor theater I can own and operate.
I have finally found one and have everything ready to get open, but I am in need of more money in order to continue. Banks have been no help because I have no business credit and not enough personal assets to satify them.

Live Theatre in Long Beach, CA Needs Seats
LONG BEACH, CA — Hello my name is Peter Kreder and I am with Six Chairs & a Couple of Artists Theatre company here in Long Beach, CA.
We are currently in the stages of reopening our theatre company in a new venue. We desire to upgrade our seating and provide “real” seating for our audiences. We are poor. We are looking for an organization that may be upgrading their facilities and have seats to dispose of that they may want to donate to see that the seats have a second life.
