LaGrange Theatre undergoes renovations
LaGRANGE, IL — The LaGrange Theatre, now over 87 years old, is undergoing massive renovations. For quite sometime now, patrons have noticed that the theatre’s four auditoriums have been taken out of service one at a time to have new seats installed. But this is only the beginning of what needs to be done.
Per the theatre’s website, the building must be made ADA compliant and part of this includes installing new restrooms. The current restrooms are down a stairway. The theatre must also add new HVAC and also plans to add a new lobby and a new concession stand. Beyond this, the building must be brought up to modern code and the cost to do so is astronomical.
The owners of the LaGrange Theatre will present their renovation plans to the village of LaGrange at the next board meeting. In the meantime, the theatre will be open for weekend showings.
It is good to see this much commitment from an independent theatre owner. One way Cinema Treasure fans who live in the Chicagoland Area can help is to go there, buy a ticket, and popcorn and pop in to see a show. The theatre is conveniently located about ¼ mile south of the Metra/BNSF Line LaGrange Road station. So those without a car or those who don’t want to drive have that option.

My friend Paul is right! Get out there and support an independent second-run theatre such as this! Even though my husband and I don’t live near LaGrange, we’ve been out here a few times. It is a fun theatre to go to. Management acts like they appreciate your business. Plus there are many good dining options in Downtown LaGrange.
I love this theater! I think they will make the changes necessary to make her greater than she has ever been. I can’t wait for some red-carpet fundraisers here.
Very cool story. Definitely unusual in today’s market.
