Oldham Theatre, Winchester, TN - 2012

Located on the north side of the town square of Winchester, this originally opened as a replacement for the Rivoli Theatre across on the south side of the square. George Oldham bought the theatre from his brother in law in 1949. It was gutted and remodeled but before the completion George passed away. The renovation was completed and the theatre opened with a new name in memory of George Oldham. It became the Oldham Theatre and is still in operation today with a second screen located in the former balcony.

Now operated by the owners of the Montana Drive-In, Estill Springs, TN.

We drove by the town square in Winchester, Tennessee, and the theatre looked great, complete with a seasonal display out front:

The Oldham Theatre will be getting another renovation in late summer 2009. New seats and curtains. The downtown area of Winchester is undergoing a major renovation and the Oldham will be following suit.
Also, the history mentioned above is not correct. The Ravoli Theatre was actually located on the South side of the square and the Oldham was built to replace it on the North side of the square. It is interesting to know that construction took much longer than expected because Mr. Oldham thought that the contractors were charging too much for the brick. Construction stopped until the brick prices came down. Owners have the orginal letters documenting the construction process/

It used to have a horrible sound system in there. The echo was so bad you couldn’t understand the dialogue.
