May 12. 1978 photo added with “Malibu Beach” on the marquee, so it must have closed later that year.
July 19th, 1951 grand opening ad in the photo section.
Two high school friends and I saw “My Fair Lady” at the Green Hills. I attended a number of movies there during high school/college days. Another grand old neighborhood theatre now long gone.
Thanks for taking the time to post them Nick.

Thanks TLsloews for an interesting story.
Correction the opening date should be 1951 not 1961.Also Martin theatres took over the theatre from Crescent Amusement Co.in 1965.
According to the Nashville Retrospect, the Green Hills theatre opened on July 19th.1961 by the Crescent Amusement Company.Addimission was 40 cents for Adults and 16 cents for children. The First Manager was Harvey Nokes formerly of the Belmont Theatre. The first ushers had to were their own suits and got paid a whopping 32 cents an hour and a complimentry flashlight. The theatre had a party room that when not in use became a hang out for theatre employees and their girlfriends or boyfriends. On time usher remembers putting Victor Mature,s name on the marquee as Victor Manure causing the management some embarrassment. The last Saturday Matinee was held Sept 5,1959 while showing OLD YELLER three local teenagers set of cherry-bombs as the movie was ending causing panic in the theatre. When Harvey Nokes left as manager in 1966 he was replaced by Richard Cornwell. The Green Hills Theatre closed on June 22, 1978/No Celebration or explanation just a sign that said CLOSED.
Photo to be posted soon.
Graces Wine and Spirts is located at this address now.
Steven Spielburg’s 1975 hit JAWS played at the Green Hills Theatre during its official run enagement on June 20, 1975.
Went to this theatre a few times when I was a kid do not remember much about it,too bad there are no photos, this was in the Upscale part of town.
You saw “My Fair Lady,” MP, at Green Hills. TSOM played at the Belle Meade for something like two years exclusively. The marquee was a bronze plaque that read the TSOM.
Couldn’t believe that the movie did that kind of business for so long.
The Green Hills was a fine movie house. Friends and I went there many times during high school/college days. I either saw “My Fair Lady” or “The Sound of Music” there..don’t recall which.
The Green Hills was the nicest of Nashville’s suburban houses – nice enough that films actually opened there. Most of the suburban houses were second-run and would get films only after they’d played downtown. Green Hills was an affluent area – probably one of the reasons it was a cut above. Had a sound-proof crying room for babies or people (I suppose) with a big glass window so one could still watch the film. Saw The Great Race there.
Actually, the Green Hills Theater sat where Grace’s Plaza now is. Wild Oats Market is where the old Green Hills Market once was.
The Green Hills was located about where Wild Oats market now sits on Hillsboro Road.
but the gallery is located in Nashville.
