The Melrose Theatre was located in the Brentwood area of the city. The architect was Victor A. Rigaumont and it opened around 1931.

The Melrose is now the Melrose Medical Center.

The architect, Victor Rigaumont was involved with the Smith Opera House in Geneva NY and the State Theatre in Ithaca NY.

Wow Ken, I had never heard of another Rigaumont theater other than the Geneva and Ithaca theaters. Little is heard of Victor Rigaumont after he worked on the Schine Geneva. He and Myer Schine were often “at odds” – which is probably too mild a term for their disagreements!

Saturday afternoon matinee was awesome for kids.No computers or video games then.Triple feature scary movies the best.Saw the Giant Behemoth,King Kong,the Mysterians,Village of the Damned,Kiss of the Vampire,the Black Scorpion,Curse of the Werewolf,the Premature Burial,the Invisible Boy,Beast of Hollow Mountain,and many more.Early 1960s.What fun !

Not sure yet when it closed earlier for a spell or for some years, but the Melrose advertises a “Grand Opening” (reopening?)on November 23, 1960 with “Hercules/Samson and Delilah/Ulysses” (triple-bill) in The Pittsburgh Press.
