I have a postcard marked from January 1941 with the Rialto clearly visible in the “Main Business Section, Alice, Texas.” So, it was opened well before 1948. I’m not sure where the KIII story got that year.
Currently gutted and most of the art deco top has been removed as well as the overhang and name. (see new image)

Demolition has started at the Rialto.
I just added a 1948 photo of the Rialto, courtesy of the Lincoln Land Facebook page.
And they are showing the same movie all the time.
Glad to see they had enough marquee letters.
Here are some photos from my July 2010 trip to Alice.

Open those doors and the entire place is caved in.
They still have a good front to it but thats all. What a shame.
The theatre I believe was owned by Hall Industries, which owned other movie theatres in the area like Kingsville, Beeville and some others. It went through a nice remodeling job in 1968 or 1969 and looked fairly decent. Before then, it was a different story. At one time it had doors with windows, but you could only see by looking out.
was this theater owned by rio entertainment, inc.?
