Located in the Camelback Mall, the Camelback Cinema I-II-III was opened by Associated Independent Theatres Inc. on May 2, 1965. Statewide Theatres took over on September 22, 1965. On October 11, 1967 it was taken over by Loews. On June 28, 1972 General Cinemas took over and they operated it until December 1973. It was taken over by Century Cinemas followed by General Cinemas again until June 6, 1984. Last operated by Harkins Theatres who closed it on February 28, 1998.

The July 5, 1965, issue of Boxoffice Magazine said that Associated Independent Theatres of the West would open the Camelback Theatre in Scottsdale that summer. The new house had 850 seats.
The January 17, 1966, issue of Boxoffice included the Camelback in its annual list of theatres opened during the previous year.
Is this the “Camelview 5” Harkin’s Theatre?
The Camelback Theatre was located on the south side of Camelback road near Scottsdale Road. This where “MIDWAY” and “ROLLERCOASTER” played in SENSURROUND. The large theatre was split into 3 screens.
A.K.A. LOEWS CAMELBACK? Never heard of this one.
I bet the large theatre split into three screens looked horrible,much like was done to National Hills Theatre when it was tripled.I could only watch one movie there after it was tripled.and I got in Free and still couldn’t bring myself to see what Greed did to a wonderful theatre,much like CAMELBACK THEATRE.
This theatre was still operating into the 80s and as mentioned was on the opposite side of Camelback from Scottsdale Fashion Square Mall. Camelview 5 is on the same side of Camelback as the mall, which is the north side.

Actually, the theater’s last day was on February 28, 1998. The movies they play on its last day were Welcome To Sarajevo, The Wings of The Dove and The Replacement Killers.
