Pix Theater...Toppenish Washington

The entrance to this theater was located on the ground floor of the J.D. Keck Building, a stately three story red brick structure from the late-1800’s. It was operating as the Pix Theater by 1941 when it was operated by Midstate Amusement Corp. It seems to be a punk nightclub now.

The rear of the building was heavily modified for theater use, with a large stage house. Old advertisements are still visible, one saying ‘Let’s go to the movies.’, and the other ‘You’ll find the pick of the pictures at the Liberty, Pix, and Wigwam.

Perhaps you could enlighten me on the status of the Pix Gallery. What is its current purpose? When was a Liberty Pix Theatre located at this address? I show no Liberty Pix Theatre at 211 S. Toppenish Avenue. I will tell you what was located at this address. In 1915 the Lois Theatre was built at 211 S. Toppenish Avenue. The 800 seat Lois Theatre was used for live theatre and movies. On January first 1927 the Lois was renamed to the Liberty Theatre. In the thirties the Liberty was owned by Howard Hughes at which time it became a full time movie theatre. The Liberty Theatre was rescued from demolition in 1984 and used as a movie-live venue theater. I find no data for the Liberty Theatre after 2002. Any further updates would be appreciated.

Well, that picture has gone to internet heaven. The 1967 FDY shows the Pix Theater as part of the Mercy & Sons chain, Partners were Michael, Fred Jr., Edgar and Paul Mercy. Mercy & Sons also owned the Liberty at the time, along with a number of other Washington houses.
