Round-Up Drive-In

Southern Amusements Circuit opened the Round-Up Drive-In on September 20, 1949 with Glenn Ford and Evelyn Keyes in “The Mating of Millie”. Manager Mack Jarrett resided in the drive-ins handy apartment in the screen tower. The mural of the cowboys was well liked by patrons and passers-by, alike. It had a capacity for 500-cars and walk-in area which had 125-seats. By 1952 it was operated by Page Baker, Theaters Service Co. out of New Orleans. By 1955 it was again operated by Southern Amusements.

A 1955 overhaul during the summer season curtailed profits but thrilled patrons when it relaunched with a widescreen tower to present CinemaScope titles in August. It screened “A Very Special Favor” and “Captain Newman” as a double-feature in May 13, 1967. It had a “closed for remodeling” announcement the next day. Those improvements went unadvertised and likely without turning on the projectors. It was demolished and has been replaced by a school board office.
