Source Arts Venue

The Source is an arts venue in collaboration with the University of East London and Newham’s Youth Empowerment Service, providing an incubator for creative expression and live performance as well as a social hub and learning space. It is based in the former Stratford Circus/Stratford Youth Zone building which had been vacant since November 2020 when the arts centre closed its doors after losing its Arts Council funding. It is located directly opposite the former Stratford Picture House cinema.

The 300-seat auditorium is ideal for large-scale performances, whilst the 120-seat Studio Theatre on the ground floor with bench-type stadium seating has been screening films, usually every Tuesday, since June 2025. Special film seasons such as South Asian Film Nights (August to December 2025) and Black Cinema Film Nights (November 2025 to February 2026) take place monthly on Saturdays. Film Nights are supported by Film London with ticket prices at the time of writing a modest £5 plus booking fee. Plays staged in 2025 include “The Lesbians of Forest Gate” performed in September and “It’s a Wonderful Life” performed in December, both in 2025.
